hello,
I Was wondering if any of you have
ever had this problem and if so..
PLEASE Tell me you have & know how to fix it..
Ok, i reasont'ly upgraded from my PIII 550 to An Athlon Xp 1900..
Before the upgrade every Mesh worked as it should..
I upgrade, and every Mesh Works As it Should..
Except.. Nicos Defiant (which is 20 - 40 % of why i upgraded )
(as you can tell by my avatar, i love the defiant)
Now, what happiens is when ever i open the mesh
i get this repeating error message (repeats like 10 - 14 times)
"Error In MNFace.cpp Line 149 "..
i've done everything i can *$@%(() well think of,
but for the life of me i can't get it to stop doing that.
i can still use the mesh somewhat, but Big Shots
(more then just a beauty shot) and she crash's..
If You have ANY thoughts.. PLEASE help..
Thanks A Lot..
Valiant.

That's weird...
I never got a similar message.
hmmm.... have you tried to delete the old Max file of the Defiant mesh and unzip the one that is zipped (assuming you have it) ?
OR, you can try not to directly open the file, but to use a "Merge" option from the "File" menu and merge the mesh itself into a completely new scene and then save it up.
Or it could be that Max itself got damaged when you upgraded the processor (but i'ts unlikely).

Well, i have Several Back-ups in the main defiant directory itself
from the various scenes i've done, all give me various degrees of
trouble.. i do have the original zip, have re-installed it to a diffrent
directory and have had the same problem..
i'm hesitant to outright delete the current defiant i have in there
as i've translated the glows from the original lang... to english
The Merge idea is a new one, i like it and will give it a try..
but i'll end up loosing all the material glow/object glow settings won't i ?
(i'll still try, whats the harm right ?)
as far as max being damaged i've already delt with that
in that i un-installed it and re-installed it, so i'm fairly confedent
it's not the install of max.
Thanks for the idea, and am always willing to take more...

ok...
i've tryed merging then saving to a new file,
no effect.
re-downloaded it from nicos site..
no effect..
i tryed merging then saving to a new file again,
no effect.
then i thought.. xref scene/ xref object..
Failed../Sorta failed
sorta failed.. means that it doesn't give the error message
any more.. but.. When ever i open it, somehow cannot retain
the information of the bottem right hand panel
(that there is a camera in the camera bay) so i have to re-pick it
up over and over..) (and see feels/seems weird as well)
i still have more test's to do on the sorta failed file..
but even in the begining the sorta failed file, failed altogether..
it was only after i disabled all motion blur and saved it did the
results listed in the paragraph above take effect..
so i'm still stuck...
at least for now..
any more ideas are welcome.

i do have an update for anyone thats been following this..
and it makes little sense to me but i'll do my best to explain it..
(from the begining..)
step 1, a month ago.. before my upgrade everything worked fine
and i had numiorus Archived Scenes of nicos defiant in my system
(when i make a good pic, i try to save the scene so i can learn from it..)
Step 2.. i get the system upgraded, after which everything except
nicos defiant works as it should.
when ever i would open nicos defiant i would get
"assertion failed, error in MNFace.cpp line 149"
(sometimes others, but that was the most)
Step 3. i get frustrated and last night i ask you guys and another board
for help, where i get several nice leads and suggestions..
Step 4. none of the great ideas end up paying off, so i get pissed off
and start -Bleeping- around with options in max, Upgrade video drivers
and bleep with them also..
Which leads me to where i am Now,
With The Defiant WORKING.. Why i don't know..
but heres how it goes..
I open The Original Nico Defiant V2.0 and i get that error message..
i make minor modifications to the defiant, Save it.. Open My Newly
Saved Version And It Works !..
Why i don't know.. but it does..
My Only Headache, is if it's doing this now, and working fine
and my system now acting almost as a converter for the dam thing..
then why did'nt my already converted files that work again now,
not work before and why i'm able to bring nicos original defiant from
a state of error bugs to operational... and i've lost my self.. o'boy.
O'well if anyone has an explanation for That..Let me know.. :D
Thank You ALL For Trying To Help With Your Ideas..
(i love the defiant, but i want to do more then beauty shots..)
Thank you again..
Valiant.

have you tried exporting it to a different format, like LWO or WavefrontOBJ then re-importing it?

MNFace.cpp is a C++ source file. It sounds like a recompilation issue with some plugin you might be using. If you have the source file (that is, if you actually have MNFace.cpp), try compiling it and record, if any, the warnings. Then post them here.
