I've never tried my hand at a tutorial before....let me see what I can come up with. Does anyone have anything Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator related they'd like to see a tutorial for?

Interesting project. I like the film (mostly) but there are a few things I would change if I had the skills and wouldn't get bored and leave it 15 minutes after starting. (I know I would) I'll have to see your cut when it's done to make a final judgment but it's definitely interesting. BTW, while you're at it, could you make it so that Obi-Wan and Anakin's lightsabers have D-rings instead of covertech clips? That really got on my nerves. ;) |

One of the things that I am no good at is texturing for my models. :( For example I am building the Classic Enterprise for a tutorial in lightwave aimed at beginners. but I don´t know enough to create one in photoshop nor Gimp too share with the tutorial. Here is an example of an image of what I am taking about . "this is not mine, but I got it from a trek site" http://meshula.net/daystrom/1701/1701_1.html how would you do this. :) |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-ring Covertec clips are fairly new. They consist of a round knob and a belt clip holder. They're used for things like cell phones and lightsabers. Now, in the original trilogy, Luke, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader all had D-rings on their lightsabers and clips on their belts on which they could hang their lightsaber hilts. This was true for Obi-Wan's, Anakin's, Darth Vader's and Luke's ligtsabers. Fast forward to the prequel trilogy. Every lightsaber, including Obi-Wan and Anakin's episode 3 lightsabers, (which are supposed to be the same as the episode 4 lightsabers) had a Covertec knob attached to them and hung on the belt using a belt adapter. For episodes 1 & 2, this is not a problem. Neither Obi-Wan nor Anakin were carrying the hilts like seen in episode 4 in those movies. However, in episode 3, they were. So, that presents a continuity problem. There are two possible explanations: 1. George Lucas has a low opinion of his fans and just hopes nobody would notice (we did.) 2. Obi-Wan was extremely bored on Tatooine and decided to replace what had been standard lightsaber belt attachments with D-rings. Explanation 2 seems very unlikely, which leaves us with explanation 1. Here's a link to the parts on Parks Sabers: D-Rings and Covertec clips: http://www.saberkit.com/belt_clips.html Belt kit: http://www.saberkit.com/beltkit.html Edit: here's a link to the Parks Sabers main page: http://www.parksabers.com/ The Graflex/MPP 'sabers are accurate recreations of the original Star Wars (episode 4) hilts, including the D-ring attachments. Many of their Phase 'sabers are based on the newer trilogy and feature the Covertec clips. |
Re: New Member Welcome Thread

Re: New Member Welcome Thread
No problem. One of these days, I'm going to order a Parks saber. It is my destiny. :D

I would not mind one of them myself :)

Re: New Member Welcome Thread
I've been going to their site and drooling since the late '90s. I don't know why I didn't buy one back then when money was less of an issue. Of course, back then they offered mostly 'sabers with permanently attached blades and ones that didn't work. It's nice now that the blades are all removable, even on the working 'sabers, and that you can change the blades to whatever color you want. (back it he '90s, I think they had 3 or 4 colors and not all hilts had every color available) They have some new ones since the last time I was there, which makes me want one even more. ;)

They're a little pricier than Parks Sabers but you get all custom work and the style is amazing. Edit: I see some on his E-Bay store that are more reasonably priced and have lights and blades. He has a few on there with a Buy it Now price of $250. That's only a little more expensive than the cheapest light-up 'saber at Parks Sabers ($225) and it's all custom coolness. |
Re: New Member Welcome Thread
From the screen shots on the Advanced light website, the Saber blades brightness dont look as even tho. Seems like those are that style that are bright at the base, and dimmer as it extends out. Maybe just be a few bad pics of them tho.
