Thank you for making it available. Looks like long render times coming up!

Darrell Lawrence August 10th, 2004 11:52 AM

Actually, the LW version *doesn't* take that long to render!

mikala August 10th, 2004 05:39 PM

My machine and lighting are what is killing render times for me.

Darrell Lawrence August 11th, 2004 08:13 AM

Mines an "oldie" compared to what's out there these days too ;)

Well, Darrell, if you need some new hardware, I've got all sorts of stuff lying around the place. You'd be surprised what I get from some of my clients.

Client - "Now that I've got this new system, could you just get rid of the old one for me?"

Me - "F***in' A! I mean - sure..."

Then, of course, there's all the stuff I have left over after my own upgrades.

Right now, I've got three 512 MB memory sticks, a brand new motherboard with a 2.4GHz P4 on it, and a couple of very nice 256MB video cards that aren't compatible with my new system. (Damned PCI Express slot...)

And I'm still not satisfied with what I've got! :D

a 2.4GHz P4....
*cries*

That's a nice mesh. How many polys is that thing -- I imagine the ribs must pile them on.

I like the design of the ship from overhead, particularly the unusual approach to detailing. Not real fond of the underside, which I notice that the effects guys, uh, "underplay".

Cant post images on this site (or I dont know how), and I have no site of my own, but there are images at scifi-meshes from my 2003 centurion and 2003 cylon raider in the 3d-art section. Wanted to blow up some of Mike Wright his vipers, but they are made in max4.3, and I work with max3.0. So I have to wait for some zoic renders (front, top, etc) from the viper MVII (I know Mike is waiting for them too, lol) so I can create that one to battle the cylon raiders. Meanwhile I am doing some Borg stuff, and slowly working on the 2003 cylon basestar.

No, the ribs have not that many polys, made them with AutoCad, the real polycount comes from the little details. Thought the whole mesh was something about 700.000 polys, but it renders real quick in max, and as Warrior said it seems to render quick in LW.

Dont know about the polycount in LW, maybe Warrior can answer that.

wjaspers - You may feel free to use the Gallery as a host for your images. I've created a "Works In Progress" category in the Gallery for those of you who do not have your own webspace. Once you're done with a project, you can just delete the files you no longer need. :)

For a quick guide to Uploading, just check out the main news item on the 3DG frontpage.

My LW conversion has 205332 polys, 212108 points.

Darrell Lawrence October 16th, 2004 09:36 PM

Updated the image link.

I came across the BTG objects in g00gle search, they are incredible! Havent been able to find the LW version to look at though :( Anyway, my hat is off to the artist!

The Galactica stuff is at Colonial Fleets.

jf3000 May 22nd, 2006 06:57 PM

So where is the download for this file, I clicked on the link and all I get is a page not found.

evil_genius_180 May 22nd, 2006 07:01 PM

www.colonialfleets.com It used to be part of this web site, but Warrior decided he wanted to have a separate site for Galactica stuff. :D

evil_genius_180 June 7th, 2006 10:12 AM

Are you referring to the new BSG series ship vs TOS Galactica ship? Because I think they both have their merits. :D

gmd3d June 7th, 2006 12:58 PM

I too prefare the old Galactica .. to me the old one looks like a kick ass battleship.. far more the the new one .. but the new hone has it good points too

evil_genius_180 June 7th, 2006 03:28 PM

With those exposed ribs, the new one always looks incomplete to me.

ussadventure June 7th, 2006 07:17 PM
