Re: Building the USS ENTERPRISE NCC-1701 in Lightwave
Here are some wire frames for those who like such things, I know I find wire-frames interesting and helpful.
Like EG180 wire-frames he sent to me of his model, while it was made in Truespace but wire-frames are vary helpful short of having the model to view. So thanks Chris for them, they helped a lot when I was stuck. http://taraniscgi.files.wordpress.co.../12/wire-1.jpg http://taraniscgi.files.wordpress.co.../12/wire-2.jpg http://taraniscgi.files.wordpress.co.../12/wire-3.jpg http://taraniscgi.files.wordpress.co.../12/wire-4.jpg http://taraniscgi.files.wordpress.co.../12/wire-5.jpg http://taraniscgi.files.wordpress.co.../12/wire-6.jpg http://taraniscgi.files.wordpress.co.../12/wire-7.jpg http://taraniscgi.files.wordpress.co.../12/wire-8.jpg |

Re: Building the USS ENTERPRISE NCC-1701 in Lightwave
It looks great to me, bro. Textures are something that come with time and experience and a lot of trial and error (especially error.) But you're definitely off to a great start in that department. Plus, you don't want to over texture the classic E. :)

Re: Building the USS ENTERPRISE NCC-1701 in Lightwave
Thanks Chris..
I have updated the images via Flickr. I think I could improve on the nacelle struts, I think they could be rounder. |
Re: Building the USS ENTERPRISE NCC-1701 in Lightwave
I don't know about that, they look good to me. Of course, I also don't know exactly how round they were on the studio model.

Re: Building the Classic USS ENTERPRISE in Lightwave (now released)
It´s TO MUCH generous from you, make the tut free Ger. All that time spent in doing it... a hard work, I know!
I´m not a lightwave user, but now you gave me a reason for at least try it. Knowing where the buttons are, can help me when importing/exporting from/to lightwave. Thank you a zillion of times!!! :bounce::cool: |

It was just over a year of work (not every day) but my mind was on it working out approaches to some parts, and starting again to make it better if I could. Rounder tool in Lightwave can at time not work as expected as it only works on 4 sided polygons, so when I was work on the secondary hull and the 3 umbilical´s and the fantail and warp engine areas I had to pay particular attention to how the polygons are arranged. Vertibevel or Jettobevel would have removed the need to work so much on these areas as much, but as a foundation course I thought the long road was the better one. let me know your thoughts on the tutorial But I only wanted to build the model with lightwave from out of the box approach, in doing so I learned alot myself. Note: that I planed the model without consideration of texturing it, it was an exercise in modelling only. But I am looking into learning UVMAPPING and perhaps in the future I will add that to the tutorial. I have provided a donation button on my blog if anyone wants to donate, at the moment I am looking at another tutorial project and I will plan it accordingly. |
Re: Building the Classic USS ENTERPRISE in Lightwave (now released)
I have removed the tutorial links for a short while as I rework one of two areas

Re: Building the Classic USS ENTERPRISE in Lightwave (now released)
Crap, I already downloaded it a while back. :tongue2: One of these days, I'm going to give it a go, maybe this coming week. :)

Re: Building the Classic USS ENTERPRISE in Lightwave (now released)
No problem.
I´m not changing the tutorial approch, only its appearance and some errors in text I found... and instead of 30 files to download ... it will be 10. Hope to have it back up in the next few days |
Re: Building the Classic USS ENTERPRISE in Lightwave (now released)
Looking forward to the new version. I need to get back to working on building it.
