Newtek cuts Lightwave's price!!

Don't know if anyone saw this, but Newtek has slashed the price of LW 7 from $2495 to $1595! Upgrades have been reduced as well, by $100 --- 6 to 7 is now $395, and earlier versions to 7 are now $495.

If anyone was on the fence about purchasing LW, this should make things a bit easier to decide :)

Full details are at www.newtek.com

Yup, I usually order my progs from Safe Harbor, they have good prices. This is just one fine example :)

Great news: Educational Edition for $495.

Actually, $395, according to the newest Newtek press release.

Also, LW 7.5 is coming out soon; Newtek is taking applications for folks who'd like to attend a party at New York and get a sneak peek.

Now, if Newtek could speed up the renderer to close to EI, they would bury everyone. LW has become amazingly well featured, and not just for the price...

I'm still trying to work out why everyone is so suprised by these price reductions ya know...

Newtek and Maya are just following an example set by another firm thats all.. (Caligari who dropped their prices through the floor last year)

the question is.. now the prices have dropped... do you have to pay through the nose for Tech Support?

WHo needs tech support? We have each other!

Now if only Discreet/Kinetix/whoever would drop their price produce a new version of rayfx and renderman for Max...

Not trying to start a flame war here, but Caligari is not, nor has it truly ever been, one of the top-tier 3d apps. That's why no one made a big deal out of their price cuts. But now that apps like Maya and Lightwave are dropping their prices, the industry takes notice.

As far as tech support goes, it seems that the companies that previously charged for service contracts (A/W, Softimage) still do, regardless of the price cuts, and the companies that didn't previously charge for tech support (Newtek) still don't. How long that stays true --- well, that remains to be seen.
