TOS Connie in DOGA

It amazes me how close I can get to shooting models sometimes with just a little work... :)

I tried to as close as possible also match the "poses" used in the old SFX shots for the first four.

The fifth image is an attempt at fully integrating the model into the background...I wasn't completely happy with the way the lighting turned out, but I think I got close.

The sixth image was easy once I did the base Connie...Primary Hull plus pylon plus nacelle and you have the Scout/Destroyer from the FJ Tech Manual... :)

its interesting to see the connie in other apps .. biggest problem is the Primary Hull .. is there a way to make it more curved ?? the edge on one look great but the upper views and lower it loss out .

'Fraid not...limitations of my parts box, unfortunately...

Even allowing for that, I think it looks pretty darn good...

No doubt about that .. it look good considering the limitations of your program
not the modeller ... I was thinking what could you do with Truespace or Lightwave ..

Hey I was not putting it down .. just making an observation :)

It kinda reminds me of some of the parts you could mix and match on the old Starship Creator games from Simon & Schuster. Please forgive me for this, but they were kinda low poly like that and there were some variations of the original design that you could mix and match and make a unique ship.

It's all good... :)

I DID try a free "geometry up" program (don't remember which one right now), and after fiddling with it off and on for over a week I just couldn't get the hang of it. I only have maybe a couple of hours a week for this sort of thing, not enough for the VERY intensive study and much practice it would take to master a "true" CG program.

You're on the right track...same idea only even MORE basic...instead of nacelles and saucers and hulls think discs, spheres, and cylinders and a VERY few "detail" parts....

Couple of "Beauty" renders

First my Connie by herself.

Next, Connie rendevousing with a "Kelvin" type starship (from the new movie). The Kelvin was made with the same parts as the connie, with a few scale alterations and a slight mod to the saucer.

Honestly, of the two, I like the second one better...got a more accurate "angle" on the light sources, added a second parallel light to simulate more than one primary light source to match the background, and used a modicum of "fill light" to bring out the shadowed detail a bit.

Wow, you already built a "Kelvin." I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to build one but I wasn't expecting anything that fast. And, I agree, of the two the lighting is better on the first one though I do like the moody look of the first one.

At the risk of sounding immodest, I already had all the parts I needed for the Kelvin made for the Connie. Just deleted the parts I didn't need, rescaled a few, made some slight changes to the saucer, and rerendered...total time ~15 minutes.

One of the things I REALLY like about DOGA! :)

Ok, I know I'm gonna look like an attention whore for this, but sometimes I just can't resist the urge to tinker.

Same beauty shot of the Connie and Kelvin. Minor strutctural tweaks to both and added the navigation lights.

Also, a shuttle a la STXI
