New user to Lightwave required
Bit of a reverse help request here.
I am looking for someone new to lightwave to help test out a new tutorial in lightwave for building the Classic "USS ENTERPRISE NCC -1701" Is it easy to follow or need more direction. I would like a newbie to lightwave as it aimed at someone that has just started out and wants to get into the modelling side. a proof reader and modeller :):D |
Re: New user to Lightwave required
Is the tutorial complete? If it is, I might be able to test it out for you. I have a 30-day trial of Lightwave 10. I've been thinking of giving Lightwave a try anyway, hence the trial.

Re: New user to Lightwave required
No not yet ..... it is for the tear drop shape.
but I should be finished soon another week perhaps for the modelling side of things. I redoing the images and retyping the text. after the break I had re-reading it I found it cluttered |
Re: New user to Lightwave required
Just let me know if you want me to test it when you get it done. I haven't activated the free trial yet, so time isn't an issue.

Re: New user to Lightwave required
I have a general Lighwave question for you. I know you are/were a Lightwave 9 user, have you tried Lightwave 10 at all? If not, have you seen any reviews or anything like that on Lightwave forums saying how good it is compared to LW9?
I'm (obviously) putting serious thought into changing from trueSpace to Lightwave. I'm so fracking impressed by stuff I've seen done in it and I like Newtek's prices much better than Autodesk's prices. Lightwave is only about $100 more than the latest version of trueSpace used to be before it went to freeware and then went kaput. (you can still get it but it's not getting any younger) I can handle $900 much better than I can $3,500. However, sometimes you can find used (or even new) copies of Lightwave 9 on Ebay for $200 to $300. I'm wondering if it's worth the money to get LW 10 or if I should just wait (when I have the money) and get a cheaper copy of LW9. Do you have any thoughts on this? You're one of the few Lightwave users that I know that's a regular poster and I value your opinions on a lot of things, so any insight you have would be greatly appreciated. Edit: Hmm, this was supposed to be a private message but I obviously messed up somewhere. Oh well. |

But its better than LW9, been more stable (while I have not had any trouble myself with it) it has a lot of new features like VPR which allow you to view your scenes before rendering. great if you want to get into animating I would and I ask a friend to be sure go for LW10. Avoid the Ebay offers if you want to go second hand you have to be sure you get the licence. check out newtech forums http://www.newtek.com/forums/ .. or Foundation3d where a package shows up from time to time. but really LW10 would be the way to go.... I eventually have to go that way too ? but as I only model the layout is hardly used . but I will be changing that soon. Modo is also a possibility. not sure how much that is. but I will be more than happy to help in any way once you do get LW.. |

The problem is, if I go LW10, it's going to be a long time before I can afford it. |

Re: New user to Lightwave required
Nice to see this in Beta test phase Taranis!
EG180 definitely go for LW10 if you can. Very solid build with new features that make it (at least for me) the best LW to date. |
Re: New user to Lightwave required
Yeah, I'm going to go LW10, it's just going to be a while before I can afford it. $900 isn't exactly something I can just scrape together on the fly, it takes careful planning and saving on my part.

Do you still need a proof reader for your tutorial? I'm so new to lightwave that I am still not sure of the basics on how to use it. lol
