3ds Max texture seams
I have stumbled upon an interesting problem, texture seams. It seems the UVWs always leave a seam when you unwrap them. Does anybody have any personal experience on how to remove or reduce these?
I can show examples if needed. |

Can help myself as I never used 3DS nor uvmaps .......

Re: 3ds Max texture seams
You need to make your textures seamless. Of course, I don't know how easy that is to do with unwrapped textures, because the software I use doesn't have an unwrapper. Maybe you can post a sample of a texture with which you're having this problem and we can maybe figure it out from that. (make sure you watermark or put a big "sample" or something on the texture before you post it)

Re: 3ds Max texture seams
I have a partial solution that involves making adjustments to the textures in photoshop but that only works to certain extent.
Here is an example. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b322/Reiko1/rims1.jpg This is a texture of the rim on the saucer of the USS Enterprise. Where the edges of each section meet it cause a seam. The strange thing is the seams only show when viewing the model from further away. When I zoom in the seams disappear. |
Re: 3ds Max texture seams
I feel so stupid. The problem was easily solved via a setting in the texture baking window. It's called edge padding and the default is 2. I set it to 8 and seams are gone. :)
