Excellent in all but a few points- Inside the explosion, you can se the outline of the saucer, yet there is debri flying all over the place.

The saucer should have at least some holes in it or the saucer should have a huge gapping hole in it (since it is the nacelle exploding, right next to the saucer).

Getting there.

Now work on the debri some. That big triangle piece looks just like that- A big triangle piece. Needs to look jagged and such so it looks as if it was ripped from the ship. Needs some burn marks too.

A technique you might try is to photoshop some nice debris with an alpha channel then slap that on some big triangles.

Here's an example. Use the surrounding black as the alpha channel. Build about 10 more or so more like this and you'll have a really cool explosion, I think.

Try to imagine what kind of things might fly out of a ship - panels, coils, sneakers and gym bags...
