defiant for max 3.1 and lw 7.x
ok, some of you probably have this already. for those that don't, here you go...
the image is of v1.2, for max. it's a little different than the version hosted at SFM, in that i've desaturated the hull colors a bit, upgraded the lighting setup, and resized and/or reduced the color depth on many of the maps. this one should render a bit faster, without any noticeable decrease in render quality. here are the links:
max 3.1 version, with maps for defiant and valiant
optional map pack, with maps for 18 additional non-canon ship names
lightwave 7.x conversion by christoph "digitalsnake" troitzsch (includes the optional registry maps)
note #1 - the lightwave version is still the same as the previously released one, except for the replacement of the maps with the newer, more efficient ones.
note #2 - if the links stop working, it's because i've temporarily removed them from the server to conserve bandwidth. in the unlikely event that this happens, just try again after the beginning of the following month.
cheers,
#dude

great minds think alike, eh?
i was experimenting with the masks in my work on the chimera v2, and i finally realized that the hull color masks didn't really need to be so freakin huge. that, and for the black/white images, 16 colors work just as well as 256.

I took a look at your mask process (MAX) and it's very impressive. How'd ya keep track of the texture layers!
I have to see if I can do this mesh justice.
And....
Thank you for making it available!

it really wasn't all that hard. i just thought about it like i was painting a plastic model - a base coat, then colors applied over the base with masking tape.
well, that and making sure i gave somewhat unique names to the materials.

the registry names and numbers are the same, but the maps have been redone for faster renders.

Skye,
You should see the A3 print of the Defiant that one of the Wolfpak guys printed up for me. It's beautiful.

Matt
