I actually based this guy on the t-700. The 600 was a bit too lumber-some but i liked the rusty, worn look of him. The 800 has been done so i thought i'd go for the 700, a cross between the two..

I've been going over my mesh controlling the increase of the mesh density by the displacement. I also re-worked the back and chest increasing the details to the skull. I'll do a poly count when I'm finished.

I've been fed up with everything i do looking to clinical. I saw an article in 3dworld a few months back about making something look like it was painted, using displacement maps. It gave me an idea. This is one of my first tests.

Whatever it is you tested, it's looking pretty good. I like the texturing not being a clean shine. A little dirty-up goes a long ways with it.

I've had some trouble with rigging him. Too many phases in his motions, bits having to catch up to other bits etc.

He is pretty much rigged on one side now (i always do 1 side first with complicated rigs incase something doesn't work out, this being a perfect example).

Here we go. I doesn't loop properly yet but he's in motion anyway..

Now for the other arm and leg.

I use Cinema 4D, photoshop and sony vegas..

So here is the symmetry work. I have removed a couple of things as he's become a little muddled. I've used many references to build him and some have been a little contradicting, certain pipes and even body structures are taken from the T600, T700 and the T800. I like where it is but i am aware it's not 100% Skynet issue..

So now all his rigging is ready, i can make him walk where i want and pretty much do what i want..

Next up is armament..

I'm still working on the minigun, grenade launcher combo.

I saw that elsewhere in the new film, two t600's had another weapon. It turns out they were the F2000, a Belgian assault riffle. It looks very futuristic.

Thanks to Robert Rettgers modeling talents i have one of these to equip my boy..

I'm very happy with my materials but it will be another thing altogether to get it to work in an environment..

After many tests on how best to make the bullet feed work, the T600 has it's weapon platform of choice. His minigun with an semi-automatic M203 grenade launcher.. So unless you have the undercarriage of a train hanging around somewhere you won't be wanting to bump into him..

http://www.doghouseanimations.com/t800/gunfeed6.mov

Now all i've got left to add are some straps to hold onto the big guy..

They're alive! LOL

Lookin' damn fine!

Is rigging in Cinema 4D similar to Lightwave, or is it more like Max, or totally different from either? Can you export BVH files?

There are a list of animation controls missing (such as the hands), but i will get round to them as i test out the rig.

The render time is a bitch. I have a new i7 computer, even that's chugging while rendering this.

http://www.doghouseanimations.com/t8...0walk%2008.mov

Next up I'm going to try my rig in some more complicated moves..

About 3 minutes a frame if i remember correctly, mostly down to the hi quality reflections on spd materials..

So here is my next test. Still working on the rigging, and trying to keep it the minimum number of controls.

This time the knee rotations needed a target to get the look i wanted.

http://www.doghouseanimations.com/t8...%20turning.wmv

Next up is a proper test for the arms (i may even rig the hands again).

I remember reading that Lance Henrickson was originally cast in the role of the T-800 (T1000 style i guess).

It was later that they went with Arnie, but the plans for the endo has already been set, hence it doesn't really look like he would fit on that endo. I think my version is a bit more Arnie..

So more tweaks. This time I have been checking how to to turn the lights out (more difficult than it sounds).

I spent a long time getting the lighting right on this model, for the final composite i must be able to light things how i more according to the scene and not just him. So i thought I'd test out a ballistics hit.

The still frame is just the sparks lit composite layer..

That's pretty good animation there. The flash of light seems a bit too saturated though, and not reflective enough.
