Original StarWars Tilogy on DVD (1977 Version)
http://www.starwars.com/episode-iv/r...s20060503.html
In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie and, as bonus material, the theatrical edition of the film. That means you'll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983.

How much you want to bet the first versions of the films are gonna be compressed to hell and look like complete shazbot?
I wouldn't put that past Lucas at all since he wants to completely forget about all the original versions of his movies.

My only gripe has nothing to do with the original release.
My gripe has to do with... Why the hell do they need to re-release the 20004 versions with the originals???? I already have that crap.
I want *just* the originals, thank you.

I have that same issue. It's not that I don't like the new ones, it's that why in the hell would I want 2 copies each of the 2004 versions? It's not like I have the spare money to throw around on the SW trilogy.

I'll probably end up buying them to have them, but I've been content with the new versions.

where's the special edition DVD?
Will the "original edit" be remastered or just digitized? The original prints are in really bad shape. I, personally, would like to see the 1997 special edition widescreen release on dvd. Sure, they're the best looking VHS tapes you'll ever see, but a dvd version with DTS would be so much better!
Oh well, Lucas is a knuckle-head.

You're after my own heart with that one.
I don't think Lucas can release the originals as they were degraded to almost unuseable status when he THXed them in the late eighties. I think he has to release the THXed ones for that reason alone. I think I'm just going to stick with the ones I already have because I like them. With three exceptions: Greedo shooting first, Luke no longer saying to R2; You're lucky you don't taste very good, and the crappy new end music for Jedi.

If I remember correctly George said that the originals had been either "lost" or something like that, isn't it shocking he's found it again since fans demand it to get another wad of cash from them all? Soon he'll release the originals, 2004, and 3D versions all together.

Yeah, that's George for you. He "loses" things until just after it's convenient for them to reappear, then BAM!! he finds them again. I remember the commercials for the THX versions of the origninals when it was "the last time they would ever be released." I swear, he's worse than Disney at doing crap like that.

I have absolutely no respect for Lucas. He's not in it to make films anymore he's in it to make money. He's just a greedy bastard.

Yup. You hit the nail on the head right there. Why else would he be releasing the origninals and the new ones in the same pack? So he can charge more and make more money.
