Romulan Warbird
A Romulan Warbird at warp
I created my own warp field effect, and rendered it in Blender.

Nice. Though, if the ship is at warp and cloaked, wouldn't the green glow be a little seethrough too? I could be wrong, it's been a while since I saw the episode "Tin Man" where they did that. Your warp effect is really nice

2nd image using Ed's Warbird.

Romulan Warbird disengages its cloak.
The Mesh was rendered in Blender with 2 scene passes (1 with, 1 without the warbird), then the images were merged together with the cloaking effect applied in GIMP.

Looks nice. I like the transparency on the green glow.

Just a sugjestion if you intend to do an animation; 1) render a camera pass of the ship, 2) render the same camera pass over the warp affect by itself, 3) if using 3d max (i don't know about other programs, but I assume there not all that different) render a camera pass of a warp effect gismo(combustion tool) of green fire with an opacity value of 10. take all three animations and using a program like adobe premeire to layer the files overtop of eachother, with a little ajustment you'll have the same as above but no grey and the ship will apier to shimmer in transite. This also can be aplided to single frame renders. Just trying to help a great model look it's best.

The "warp effect" I believe you are talking about is not rendered. It is created in GIMP. I can probably put a little more saturation into the effect (it was intended to by more of a sky-blue) when I create the FX layer
