New to 3D
Fist off, I'm sorry for posting this in the wrong forum earlier. I'll try to delete it.
With that said;
Hey all, I come to you from the Artwork and Design forum over at Space Comms Network. It's a fine forum with just one problem, lack of posts, people just don't respond, well, most of them, a few of them respond pretty good. I just need more input... criticism, praise, hell...even sarcasm is ok from time to time, but nothing just sucks...
I started modeling 2 weeks ago with Wings 3D, I'v got 2 ships so far;
The first is strictly a small scout/search vessel, simply put, a sensor with warp capability, to be used instead of a capitol ship, in order to save recources and cost.
View one
The upper Pods are Sensor arrays that can be vectored to desired oreintation depending on the scan. The cruise configuration is as pictured. The 2 observation decks directly under the saucer, are for diferent functions. The upper deck is an observation lounge for crew and dignitaries, and the lower deck is where the heads of each of the diferent labs and the captain meet during a mission. They each have consoles to control the sensors and equipment for each of the labs. It just makes it easier to bring all of the ships resources to bare on a specific problem or project.
The second ship is just a large shuttle design I've been working on.
Shuttle
Landing mode, outter airlock doors open, inner doors shut, and ramp down.
I know both are lacking in detail, but my 3D program is lacking, and I am lacking in skill, but I'm getting better every day. ...

Truly, I don't know, I'm learning it as I go. There are snap commands that I haven't figured out, and other features.
Ohhh, and then there is lighting. /snap

No problem on posting in the wrong place, I fixed it.
Your work is cool. I could never figure Wings out. It can use textures because I know people that do it but, since you're learning anyway, I'd suggest you switch to Blender. It's the best free program out there right now. trueSpace 3 is good, but it's also pretty old. Blender is brand new and has all of the features of the commercial programs.

I tried Blender, and I too got nowhere really fast.
I think I'll play with wings a little more, it's UI seems to be more intuitive. But, once I get the hang of it, I plan on giving Blender another looksie.
I am also toying with Correl Dream 3D, but it doesn't seem to be as easy as wings. /shrug
Thanks for all the input. I'm having to totally re do my shuttle, as I got the brussard collectors just a little uneven, and I can't live with it. Expect updates soon.

Good choice using Tallguy's 1701, she's a beauty.
Hey, Guyver, there are some Wings users I know who have posted tutorials. There should be some in the member tutorials section of www.scifi-meshes.com

Both Meshes look good, better than any creation of mine , but I have to say that I LOVE that shuttle. Seriously that looks fantastic. I don't know that I sould change a thing.
The only change I would do to the first one is the PODS on the top I would change to Nacelles like the ones on the bottom and I would make the ship longer. It is so short that with all those things sticking out from it it looks too... well to quote morganzacd5p ... it's too busy looking. I think making the craft longer would make it not look so busy.
