Other WIPs/Future Projects
Some other 3D projects I've started, or had thoughts about... some have fallen by the way side, some are still on my mind...
The Autobot "Ark" from the original Transformers cartoon in the 1980's... just something I was messing about with one day, and knocked up for some fun. It's untextured at the moment, but the mesh is actually done I may get round to finishing this off one day...
The beginnings of what I think the "Yokohama" - one of the coloney ships from Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series, looks like. Very early in the WIP stage, and to be honest I haven't worked on it in a while.
One of my Trek ideas... something I call the "Exeter Class." At the moment all I have is a basic low poly study model I created in Milkshape, that I've ported over to Max to use as a base for stating a more detailed mesh... haven't really thought about this one in a while either... but it's one I intend to come back to. My othern half an I where talking one day about how a starship the size of Voyager could land and work in a planets atmosphere - so hence an idea with wings...
And last, but by no means least, another study model of a Trek idea I created in Milkshape, something I call the "Axalon Class." I was very inspired by some boats I was looking at when I knocked this one up... My thoughts on this are that it's something the size of the Sovereign...

Re: Other WIPs/Future Projects
Cheers :-)
The "Ark" is based on the on screen evidence (that is all 60 seconds of it).
The "Yokohama" is based on descriptions from within the books, and some ideas from one of the guide books written about the series.
The other two have come out of mind... which says little for them... lol

Re: Other WIPs/Future Projects
Boy, I haven't seen The Transformers pilot in a few years. Most of the shots of The Ark that I remember are its ass end sticking out of a mountain. (at least you should have plenty of references of the engine section) It's definitely cool to see that you're actually building The Ark, I grew up watching The Transformers, so I'm a huge fan.
I don't know much about the Anne McCaffery thing, I've read 3 Anne McCaffery books and they weren't in the Pern series, they were in the Saga of the Talents series she did. However, the Yokohama does have a nice 2001 vibe and that's not a bad thing.
Your Trek study models are also cool. The Exeter-class reminds me a bit of a cross between a large starship and the little Federation ships that the Maquis used. And the Axalon has a cool NX-01 meets NCC-1701-E vibe, so I definitely like it.

Re: Other WIPs/Future Projects
yeah... "bit" of Transfomer fan myself... will admit that I did a shed load of DVD captures to get the detail I needed from the forst few minutes of the pilot... (ok, yes I'm that sort of fan... best not to ask what sort of cars we have displayed on the shelves... ). As i say, the Ark is done, just needs textures. So that will be a learning experiance for me... lol
Yep, big fan of McCaffrey's Pern series... I did the cover art for the aniversey book that came out in 2007, which was a biggie for me... don't get many offers to do stuff like that, I make money as a writer normally, lol. Anne's description of the three coloney ships, and the pics she had drawn up by another artist have a very 2001 feel to them... although i am doing my take on it all.
I think after I have the Wolf and the Ingram done (really must post something about that one here...), I will make a start on the Exeter... it's another Intrepid sized ship again, but it's one of the few things my partner and I have designed together, which is cool...
And glad you like... hopefully the side projects for the Wolf won't be too far behind all this...

Hey, there's nothing wrong with getting screen captures. When I was starting my WIP for the Intrepid from Enterprise, I popped in my Enterprise DVDs with the 3 episodes that feature that model and started making some 'caps. DVD drives and software are a valuable resource for those of us who love emulating the stuff we see in movies and on TV.

That's awesome, dude. Cover art is something I often emulate because I think it's some of the best artwork out there. After all, it's one image that's supposed to tell you enough about a book to want to read it, so it has to be great artwork.
My dad is a huge Anne McCaffery fan and has read (I think) everything she's ever written, including the whole Pern series. As I said, I've only read a little of her work myself, though I do like what I've read and one day should get more of her books from the library.

Re: Other WIPs/Future Projects
Although it's very off topic, here's a resource site I swear by: http://www.rukbat3.co.uk for McCaffrey's Pern saga.
Although to be fair, the only reason I swear by it, is becasue it's my site

Cheers farshot... lol, "Axalon" has a special meaning. It's the name of a not so well known ship.

NO, from Beast Wars. Some of us don't acknowledge that Beast Wars had anything do do with The Transformers. (I Googled it also)

Re: Other WIPs/Future Projects
Found a few more bits...
An idea for a late TNG era (Trek) shuttle craft. Knocked this one up in Milkshape. Never did get any further with it... something I might come back to now for the Wolf...
An idea for a civilian type Trek ship. Again, made in Milkshape and then set aside for some reason or another...
And last, but by no means least some images of the "Blake's 7" Ship Pack models I created for the Star Trek: Bridge Comander game a few years back. Up until yesterday with the death of Filefront these were still downloadable... (sad that I had to download them myself to get them back...)

(addendum: The ship in two upper pannels is the "Liberator" or DSV-2 to it's actual owners. The ship in the bottem left pannel is a Terran Federation Pursuit Ship. The bottom right pannel - a System Pursuit Ship.)

They turned into animals!! (Optimus Primal?? )
That show was on back in my high school days. I tried watching a few episodes before school but I just couldn't get into it. Like I said, I grew up on the original. In fact, some of the series they've done since then where they were automobiles and planes again haven't compared to the original, IMO. (I love the movie from a few years ago, though) I did like the fact that Beast Wars was CGI, though. Doing a show completely in CGI was innovative in the '90s.
Damn, almost forgot to post on the WIPs.
I love the shuttle, it reminds me of a cross between the Delta Flyer and the Type-9 shuttle. I also like the civilian ship, though it does remind me of one of the old ship meshes from back in the day. And I still don't know much about those Blake ships but your meshes look cool.

- it worked in context of the show, and it was nice when the realised they were on prehistoric Earth and found the Ark... Larry DiTillo really learned a lot working on B5 about story arcs and the like... I think it's why the asked him to leav in the end, it was getting too adult lol...

LOL, it was on sparodically in the UK... thankfully I have friends in the USA who are always willing to send a tape or three...
Yeah, the originally is something else, and the animated movie is a classic.
And yes, what they've done since has messured up... I think they've all had CG elements since Beast Wars though. Beast Wars & Beast Machines were both done by Mainframe... dunno about the rest, not really seen them that much...

Yeah, the shuttle started out as me trying to make a Type 9, and it went wrong... but it ended up with some nice lines. It's somethig I might develop further as a part of the Wolf project.
The Civilian ship was just me messing about with a simple idea for a Trek ship, using just a saucer and some nacelles... the mesh is fairly crappy though... it's an early one...

Oh, that ship. I forgot the name of that thing. I watched every episode of Voyager from the pilot to the finale last year (it took many months) but I don't remember everything from it.

True, I could have Googled it but I'm lazy like that. Besides, I knew you and Farshot would have the answer I was seeking, since you were discussing it. The sad part is that it didn't even sound familiar to me and I just watched those last year. Having a faulty memory sucks sometimes.

Re: Other WIPs/Future Projects
I remember what episodes are about more than I do what ships/people were necessarily in them. I'm hit or miss on remembering specific details like that. The funny thing is, I even saw that Voyager 2-parter when it was on originally. Granted, that was more than a decade ago, but that's beside the point. So, it's not like last year was even the first time I saw that episode. I did remember the plot and most of what happened that from back then, which is good for me.
