Cool! Are the pirates using that warpfield disruptor you mentioned earlier? I'm sort of worried about that bacground pirate ship, though; at that angle he's going to crash into the cargo ship in less than a second!

Thanks Fabio and Masao.
The lil' ol pirate is actually attacking at an angle that will let him pass. I'll tweak the shot to show that more clearly.
No on the warp killer - I have a shot in mind using the 'Warp Interdictor' which is a stolen idea from Masters of Orion BTW. In MOO you can trap enemy vessels in a star system with interdictors and blast them to hell if you have superior weapons. I have to work on some masks for the effect and have not figured them out in detail. My poor laptop is having a tough time of it with all this work lately.

I like the ships, great scene. I think the beam looks really nice.
I had a couple of thoughts - it might be a little more dramatic if there were little sparks or something where the beam is hitting. My other thought was that the blue smoke escaping is really great, but at first I thought it was a background nebula. What if it was brighter near its emission point, perhaps white, then faded to its current dark blue colour? One other thing was that perhaps the upper right spaceship could be moved a little just because at first I wasn't sure which ship the nacelle was attached to.
I had the same problem with my latest scene because my HSMs are the same colour as the Enterprise, so visually it was hard to break them up. I found it was necessary to jigger the lighting just so that the eye could separate the ships into foreground/background.
Anyway, I think it's a great image as it is.

Trouble on the horizon by calling this an "Orion Pirate" ship...
I just watched the TOS ANIMATED series last night, specifically the ep with teh Orion Pirates in it. It has the Orion Pirate ship in it.
I'll search the web and see if I can get some screen caps of it.

Yah... I just saw your other post and went to see that. Oh well, I'll just have to come up with a new name!

Well, given the ships look around the time of the war (based on our other ships of that era, why not place them as EARLY Orion Pirates?

That works. Since the animated series is just after TOS, you have a 100-year span to play with. Your scene already shows the pirates attacking a Romulan-War era civilian transport (might also have been used after the war). But of course pirate will use any ship available, unless they all get their ships from their government. And who says that they couldn't be using 100-year-old ships with suitable upgrades? You could show the pirates against Daedalus class ships or any of my or Bernd's pre-TOS ships or even against Constitution ships.
