Default I finally learned how to make LCARS with Illustrator!

It's a long, tedious process, even with all of the shortcuts (though I'm sure it'll get easier as I learn the tricks), but this is my first LCARS panel completely generated by Adobe Illustrator (though ported through Photoshop to convert it to .jpg for use on my Nottingham-class bridge):

Please note that this image has been reduced for posting...

BTW: That compass rose was a bitch! If anyone has some shortcuts for that, I would very much appreciate learning them...

C&C welcome (I'm especially looking for any alternative color pallettes that people might have. I'm using the Voyager one right now).

You had problems making that in Illustrator? All it is are circles and rounded boxes and squares.

Well, like I said, I haven't learned the tricks yet.

It's mostly just time consuming, is all...

And every time I made a change to the compass rose, the layering frelled on me.

Heh. The tricks will come in time. Right now I learned to use the scalering, skewing, and rotating tools to get things done quickly and efficiently. Play with them - you will find things moving along quickly.

I have to say, nice work indeed.

Thanks. Since then, I've completed two more panels, and each one has gotten a bit more complicated. Still time-consuming, but they're getting easier to do.

With what I'm learning from doing the control panels, the readouts ought to be a snap.

Yep! Can we see the other panels? I am sure the are pretty nice!

Also, I will try to get to the Nottingham after I wipe (SP?) a couple more projects.

Since you asked so nicely...

I find the hardest thing is finding stuff to fill all that space with...

I'll post a WIP of the textures as applied in the WIP forum, in the thread "Nottingham class bridge redux".

Nice work - Are you looking at the panels featured in the Technical Manual?

That's where I'm getting the basic layout from. Details are right out of my imagination. (For example, there's no QWERTY keyboard on any LCARS graphic I've ever seen...)

Well, you gotta follow some sort of the interface design.

Now THAT is the kind of compass rose I'd like to be able to make!

Do you think you could make up a template for me? Just something that I can plop into Illustrator and re-color/re-scale as needed. Unfortunately, I can't pay you for it, but you'll have my eternal gratitude...

Default The keyboard is actually kind of a nice touch

The LCARS panels are pretty, but when you have to do some serious data entry, there's nothing like a KEYBOARD. I thought it was a nice addition, even though it's non-canonical.
