Default Indulging My Inner Trekkie Yet Again

I'm trying to broaden my grasp of Cinema 4D and modelling in general, and decided to try modelling a ship from the scematics. Here are my crude first steps. Does anybody recognize the model?

http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/ar...f359-other.htm (under "Star Trek Phase II Prototypes")

This is the version most people are familiar with, which is different from the ones on the schematics above:

IMO, this could make a halfway decent pre-TOS ship, and I think that's the direction I'll be going with it. Any comments so far?

Now you've definitely got my attention. I've thought of modeling this ship more than once myself. I'll have to check those schematics out.

Looks like a great start so far.

Thanks! That's high praises coming from you. One reason I chose this was that nobody else seems to have done one, at least that I can find.

It'll be slow going, though, as school starts back up again this week.

Time for a little more, I guess... changed the dorsal a bit. Not as accurate, but looks better.

I wasn't quite sure what to do with the front of the engineering hull at first, but I've grown to like the version I came up with. Very different from what we're used to, at least.

Looks great. This ship is so freakin' awesome.

My main reason for not doing it before is lack of resources. Ralph McQuarrie designs rule.

BTW, on what page did you find those schematics? The guy that runs that site doesn't allow hot linking to images because it kills his bandwidth.

Didn't think of that. I've got the one in the middle, it's from The Art of Star Trek, but the others are new to me. I suppose nobody bothered with a bottom view of the ship.

I had always wondered about this design. From the wiki pict you linked to before it looks like the saucer is going one way, and the nacells are pointing backwards.

It will be an interesting build

Dang, I did it again, and I KNOW better. I'll edit those links since etwtewtew posted the pix. It's at http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/ar...f359-other.htm under "Star Trek Phase II Prototypes."

Thanks for the link. I've got that site bookmarked under my 3D resources, but I don't know where everything is because it's huge. Also, I must confess, I usually just go to the starship galleries to get resources.

I hit a bit of a creative wall, as well as a lot of stress at work, and wanted something else to stretch my brains a bit. I'll post a few pics soon, if I get a chance.
