Default Hull text help needed

I'm trying to put some text on the hull of a starship, and it's coming out very blurry. I'm using PSP 7 for this purpose, but I also have The Gimp (an open source Photoshop substitute). Does anybody have any suggestions on how to make clear, sharp text for my starship textures?

Make sure PS or Gimp has Anti-aliasing turned on for the text. Also, if you're saving as a .jpg, make sure you're saving at 100% quality. If it's still blurry, change your format to a .tga or .bmp. Also, your 3D program might render it like that using only adaptive or no Anti-aliasing, so try rendering it with maximum AA and see if it's still blurry.
