UPDATE...
I appear to have fixed the problem I had and made new textures from scratch. This is the current look, the dirt isn't showing that well so I'll have to tweak that. I've also begun work on the bussard collector.

UPDATE...
As far as I'm concerned, I'm done. I'm very happy with the way this has turned out and after a few tweaks here and there I'll make this ship available.
I know the bussards aren't perfect but they turned out better than I thought they would.

The problem, though, is that the bussard glow is red per the reflection on the hull while the bussard itself is not red. Yellow appears to be the most prevalent color. Change either the reflected colro or the bussard color so that they match each other. I do like the bussard effect.

You're absolutely right about that. I've tried a color that is closer to what it probably should be, but it just doesn't feel right. Yellow does look like the most prevalent color but there actually is more red than yellow used. I'll work a little bit more on it but not much more.
Now it is officially done since I've worked on lowering the size of the textures because I tend to work larger than I probably need to. I've also done a half-assed 3ds version for those who don't have Max. You'll have some work ahead of you fixing things up. All I have to do now is write up a read me file and I'll make this thing available.

Great job, recommendation on different fonts, tho
Having just stumbled accidentally and happily into this thread, I'm REALLY thrilled to see your W.I.P. images. You've truly outdone yourself here. A couple of years back, I had been searching for a Larson-class mesh to play with. It's one of the many FASA-inspired designs that intrigued me. Now here it is, masterfully modeled. Great job!
One recommendation:
For the ship lettering, try using the "Airborne" font instead.
From the Charles Casimiro Design web site:
"A pet project of mine—a true type font that comes as close as possible to the lettering on the Enterprise's hull! I think it's a little bit closer than Amarillo USAF, which is what a lot of people use for their designs and models. Plus, it's got a complete character set, including Greek, Cyrillic, and Hebrew alphabets (and a lot of extra junk of probably no interest or use, unless you're a real font geek!). The font is not copyrighted and free to download. Enjoy!"

Airborne font - free download
(Mac and PC TrueType fonts available)

UPDATE....
Actually that is the font I use.
Here's the progress of the next ship.
The U.S.S. Nelson
I have to adjust a few of the textures and had some windows to the aft section of the saucer.

D'OH!
My apologies! I had thought you were using Amarillo font! Masterful modeling--AND doing an extra good job with authenticity!

Very nice. I like them both. I may just have to download them and see if I can get them into trueSpace.

Well since my computer had foldeed on me a few months ago I lost this ship so I've started a new one.
I've started with the warp engines.
Type 1 for single engine ships
Type 2 for multi engine ships

Awesome work. I like how the saucer isn't an exact duplicate of the Enterprise saucer.

This is more based on a Franz Joseph design mixed with a few of my own ideas.

Yeah, that's why I like it. I usually like your work and Franz's Star Fleet Technical Manual is still my main TOS modeling resource.

This is really cool. Keep up with it, don't lose it, and for gods' sake, release it when you're through with it! (Although are we ever really through with our models?)

The shape of the secondary hull is finallized.
Windows for the lower saucer are in place. Texture is temp.
I thought I throw in a texture on the impulse engines.

The bridge/command section have been added. I'm getting ready to add windows to the saucer rim.
I am also still tweaking the bussard collector.

I like the bussard collector. Granted, it's not what was on the show, but that's beside the point.

Its very very good.
have been away from the boards for a few days because ive been reparing my pc. My hard disk had a problem with the .mft file table, and had bad sectors on it, so have been moving stuff to a new hd so that i can continue with my 3d stuff.
Haven't lost any data, but its taken a lot of work to do the repairs.
