Damn, Sean. She's really coming together.
Something seems to be lacking in the desert dome, though. Can't really put my finger on it.
I would suggest putting some other plants, possibly flowering plants, in with the temperate forest. Just to give it a splash of color.

Good idea! BTW: I am in the process of rebuilding the spine of the ship. A guy over at LWG forums gave me a slew of very good refernce pics. unfortunately it just shows I have to start over from scratch on a couple of pieces. Primarilythe spine rods and brackets.

Ooh, the spine. Probably the most critical structural member. Of course that's the one that had to be redone. Couldn't have been like an antenna or something simple.

Oh yeah... Updates
Well--since deciding to re-do the spine of the ship I've had a lot of tweaking and rebuilding to do.
Here is a render of the new Spine bracket:
And the new spine set:
And a render of the updated anttena array:
Here is a render with the updated spine of the ship
the present polygon count is now... get ready to freak...2,137,807
I crashed my low end render system trying to render it.
That's with the forest contents included. I'm hoping to lower that number a bit by implementing hypervoxels as trees and bushes. I did some testing with HV last night and had some positive results.
Things still to be fixed:
1. Add missing spine brackets
2. Correct the angle of the forward spine rods
3. Finish the dome contents
4. Add final superstructucture details
5. Re-do the dome connectors using all the new ref pics from lunadude.
6. Finish texturing....
Update 2---
Here are my first two "successful" HV plant tests. Mind you, this saves me abot 50,000 triangular polygons.
First the desert dome:
Second the forest dome:
I need to tweak their positions a bit, but I think they look pretty good.
I definitely need to add some splashes of color here an there.
I found some pointers at http://www.synthetic-images.com/index2.htm
--use jittered poins instead of nulls
--assign an HV specific light
--use volumetric HV's instead of solids
--crank up the size variance
I did a test render with the Hypervoxel trees and the transparent glass...rendering transparency took a long time--even without radiosity.....
Then I did a render of the superstructure...I noticed some flaws and corected them.
I found I had to remodel some of the superstructure...with the new spine some of the proportions were off. So I re-built them... Still got some tweaking to do.
Once that's done I'll move on to the re-model of the of the dome connecting brackets.....

Wow - excellent work on the new domes. I love the forest dome, and although the glass of the domes may take time, it sure does look nice when it's done!

Just an update.... I've been pretty busy as of late so not much modeling has been done on the VF.
For a while all my spare time went into the Valley Forge because I'd gotten burned out on all the other projects. It's the only way I've been managing to keep sane. Like one guy in the forums said.... "3-5 projects....You really are nuts aren't you?" I ended up at my sister's for Easter, and I also have 3 commissioned drawings to complete by April 3rd (all of which I've already been paid for)
I also have to finish writing up some article information. The Blade Runner project is being covered by the media in two forms. One of them is the science fiction magazine Cinefantastique, now known as CFQ. We will be covered in the May issue. This is very exciting news for us. This magazine has been around for many years and in 1982 they published the definitive article on the theatrical film. It's an honor for us to be in the same pages! Also The Sun, a tabloid from the UK will be running a story on fan films, and we will be included. A third online magazine called "The Inside Report" is planning on doing a large article about us, and they would like to interview everyone involved. Directors' producers, actors, CG artists, etc. Needless to say we're pretty hyped.
I've also begun alternating weekends:
1 week- Rising Threat models
1 week- Blade Runner Fan Film models
1 week- Personal projects (like the Valley Forge)
1 week- for me and my wife (and family)
So there you have it. I hope to have more updates posted soon.

Either you have some great screen caps or a box of old Tamiya Pz IV parts laying about the workstation! Looks great, seems to be on the money.

Thanks! I got about 5 megs of reference pics from Lunadude over at LWG. SO HELPFUL!
The domes are actually only 3 layered hemispheres using a very large transparency map. Saves on polygons & render time. I only added detailing to the bottom of the dome and fixed the edge detailing.
Now, on to the rest of the ship:
The total polygon count is now at 1,847,909.
This number will drop a bit when I redo the foward superstructure detailing
WhatI'm trying to figure out now is why the light source in this dome is so dim... It should be the same as the other domes....
Here's a shot of the remodeled tail.
Unfortunately, while I was working on it some of the hull structures got out of place....grrrrrrr
Here's a shot of the retextured superstructure....Yes, lunadude. I know the detailing on the front of the hull is still not done....but I'll get to it.

You are most welcome. I am one who trys to put as much detail in models as possible and you are as good as I have seen, I only wish I had a faster computer so I could make my version as good as yours. Your source mat'l must have been very good.

Yeah... I was about through with my first version of the ship and then Lunadude (over at the LWG forum) started providing me with megs of reference material, So I had to re-do portions almostye from scratch.

The domes are Tesalated Geodesic domes. Lightwave can create them on the fly. can your 3d program do that?
