Re: Open Lightwave-Projects
I've often wondered if some of us would have the love we now do for CGI if we'd started off having to do it like they did in the '80s. It was all in DOS, command-line driven, and they had computers that are worse than mine for rendering. *shudders*

Re: Open Lightwave-Projects
In the ´80s ( Winter 1987 ) I bought my first Computer - MS-DOS?? No go!!! - It was a Commodore Amiga 2000... Real Multitasking - better than windows today - and Render-Prgs that was to handle like today. So - thank god - it wasn´t all in DOS at these days, if you was willing to pay a little more for a real good System...
I´ve had a lot of fun by creating renderpics with "Turbo-Silver" and "Reflections" these days and only two things were really a horror: The rendertimes ( 5 hours for a complex renderpic with a 25Mhz Turboboard !! ) and the resolutions ( 320x512 pixel with 4096 colours - or 640x512 pixels but only 16 colours )
Perhaps you think now: stoneage - but it was absolutly possible in this time to create good renderpics and 3D-animations with an Amiga...

Re: Open Lightwave-Projects
I bought my first computer in November of 1998, the day after Thanksgiving (got a good deal.) It's a Compaq Presario 2266. And I still have it. It's not a bad PC, for one of the first low budget systems ever built.

Okay - The planet is ready and I´ve uploaded it at SciFi-Others so you can use it for scenes with Starfighter-Meshes.
I´ve had not planed to finish it so fast but otherwise it was groovy to do it...
Hope you like it.

Re: Open Lightwave-Projects
Uuuhaa - Thank god, I´m back again...
Last saturday my boot-device C:\ crashed - physical damage, no chance to restore any data... stone - dead - forever...
Bad luck that the ISS-Scharnhorst was on it, so I´ve to start again the work on my starship
The good message is: no other projects or artwork were on it, like my slipstream tunnel. So before I start with the Starship again I´ve finished it and created a little scene with it. Hope you enjoy...

Re: Open Lightwave-Projects
YEAH - I´ve found some older files, by reinstalling my boot-device on a CD from what i´ve thought I´ve lost it forever
One of them is Kyle Katarn´s RAVEN from JEDI KNIGHTS II that I´ve had converted from the game into MAX and LIGHTWAVE...
After fixing the troubles with my system and finishing some other projects I´ll continue the work on it

Re: Open Lightwave-Projects
That's sweet. I haven't played it in a long time but Jedi Knight II is a good game.
