Well, each to his own I guess. Some will really dig the new show and thats fine but I'm certainly not one of them. But I kinda dislike most "prequels", they always seem to screw up the continuity of series. well, just MHO of course. Scott, sorry for briefly hijacking your thread.

Amen to that... then again, as much as I dislike Scott Bakula, I don't think I could stand a seven-year Trek series starring Alan Ruck.

OK, I guess the only way to get my thread back on-topic is to post a new animation! (MPEG-1 format, 800x600, 13.1 MB, 25 seconds)

The warp engine nacelle texturing is completed and I am now working my way down the pylons, then forward along the secondary hull, up the interconnecting dorsal, and finally the saucer section. The texturing is going MUCH slower than I anticipated, partially because I'm going for an insane level of detail on the texturing maps. You can barely see some of the weathering on the upper side of the port nacelle in this shot, but that's OK; the effect is supposed to be subtle (as opposed to the over-the-top job done on the studio model back in '92).

That model is really something! Congratulations. How does it compare proportion-wise with Alan Sinclair's drawings?

99.9% accurate--Alan's drawings are the primary source material for this model. The only areas where I think his drawings are slightly off are the shape of the impulse engine housing (which I haven't redone yet but will be slightly rounder on the edges when completed), the geometry of the lower sensor array on the primary hull (mine's slightly larger and taller along the y-axis than shown in his blueprints), and the diameter of some of the circular windows (in some places I think the original windows were smaller, and in some places I think they should be larger). Overall, though, if you were to lay one of my orthographic projections atop the same view in his blueprints, you would see a near-perfect match.

Another little morsel for your entertainment, while I continue to refine the texturing on the model. I call this clip simply, "Uh-oh." (MPEG-1 format, 800x600, 19 seconds, 13.1 MB)

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend, everyone.

Default Finally... some actual progress!

Finally... some actual progress on the model (life has had a nasty habit of intruding on my free time lately... bah!).

The first image shows off the completed warp nacelle texturing, while the second and third images show the work-in-progress secondary hull texturing. Don't worry about the hull plating looking too obvious in the second image; once the under-construction weathering layer has been added, the plating effect will be much more subdued.

Still on the "to-do" list: finish weathering the secondary hull, texturing the interconnecting dorsal, tweaking the primary hull, and building the "window boxes" behind each porthole. For the last item, I'm experimenting with some methods for building those boxes semi-automagically, so that I don't spend another month building dozens of little boxes by hand (*ugh*).
