Re: STAR TREK GENERAL DISCUSSION
Going back to that Yahoo! Movies page that Fretslayer posted, this is my favorite comment:
Quote:
What's with the USS Cyclops and the scales on the uniforms? Why does the bridge look like an overstocked Apple store? Why does the cast look like Abercrombe and Fitch models at a Star Trek convention in costumes their mommies made for them? Because you'll go see it anyway, that's why! (So will I.)

Not only is it funny as hell, but that's exactly how I feel.

Re: STAR TREK GENERAL DISCUSSION
Yep! That one hit home with me too.
LOL!
Great comment and sadly accurate.
I know I'll have my tickets before they even go on sale.
I'm so ashamed.
LOL!

Re: STAR TREK GENERAL DISCUSSION
As with every movie, no matter what it is or how much I love the subject matter, I will await the DVD. I'm not paying over $10 per person to see anything. (Not even the latest Indiana Jones, which I was way more excited about and got on DVD the other day when it came out and I love it.)

Re: STAR TREK GENERAL DISCUSSION
I have a pretty healthy home theater set up but there are some films I have to see 'on a big screen'. I can't help it. Something about a giant larger than life image on a screen makes me a happy camper.
Now considering how the home theater market has really taken a T-Rex sized bit out of the theater market, it's time the theaters upped their game to the next level.
3D is pretty cool - and the way it's done now doubly so... But I want a hologram experience when I goto the theater! Yeah...that's what I'm talking about!
I'd say it's worth $10 to have a holographic film or a virtual reality film played out in front of me. $15 if it has Olivia Munn dressed in Leah's slave girl outfit. LOL!!!

Re: STAR TREK GENERAL DISCUSSION
I have an 11-year-old 19" TV and a standard DVD player, no HD or anything, no fancy sound setup and I still don't like paying that much to watch movies. Netflix is less per month for the account where you get 1 DVD at a time than it is for a single admission to any of the local movie theaters, except the 2nd run place. But, by the time movies get on there, they're either already out on DVD or about to be. And, if I watch and send the Netflix movies back right away, which I usually do, I can usually get a couple a week. (you do the math. )

Re: STAR TREK GENERAL DISCUSSION
I very rarely go to a Movie these days, cost been a part of that. and lacklustre subject matter too.. mainly remakes of remakes. (I was dragged to Mama Mia some time ago. Barf)
I have started going to the theatre. Live actors and such and totally enjoy it ..

Re: STAR TREK GENERAL DISCUSSION
Another thing that keeps me out of theaters is the fact that, the last time I went to a movie (I think it was Batman Begins) I got stuck in front of a woman who talked and kicked my seat the whole time. (on top of paying over $10 for a movie ticket) I don't get that crap at home.

Re: STAR TREK GENERAL DISCUSSION
I guess I'm lucky that I don't get the 'jerk' sitting next to me.
Then again I am 6'2 and look like I can rip your skull out. LOL!
I scare people in public. LOL! -- Really. LOL!
Not that I try to, just that I am quite a presence when I enter the room.
I have Netflix too but I get 3 DVDs at a time and I go through a lof of them as well.
I can't even keep up with how many I view in a month.
Plus I have this crazy fiber option digital cable with something like 500+ channels.
The funny thing is that most of what I watch on TV is educational anyway.
Well, that or SciFi.
Perhaps one of the reasons I still go to the theater to see films is because in some small way I feel like I'm helping to pay the gaffer or the best boy or some other nameless grunt who spends all day huffing heavy objects around and gets no thanks.
Without a road crew a band can't do a live show and it takes more guys setting up/tearing down then it does to actually put on the show. I sort of feel for them and so I feel for the dudes who do the same thing for the film industry.
I have a pretty massive collection of DVDs as well and I find that I'll go through phases.
Like, I'll get on an 'old black-n-white' horror/scifi kick and I'll watch nothing but them for a few days.
Since I've been working on animating scenes on the TOS-TMP2 bridge I've been playing 'ST2:TWoK' daily and trying to take in as much as I can when they show the bridge of the Enterprise. So I guess I also use the TV for reseach. LOL!

Don't be - I have a good feeling about this. Think about it; Rick "The Hack" Berman is gone, they've turned the directing duties over to someone who did an excellent job with M:I 3, and they're doing a pretty interesting job of casting.
I think it'll be better than any of us are expecting...

Best place to sit is in the back row, in the seat right below the projector--It gives the best view of the movie with the minimal distortion
