Do that.
I think you'll find we're a lot more of a helpful lot than a judgmental one.

You said you use Poser... What version are you using?
I render 80% of the time in Carrara 8 Pro.
The other 20% is split between Lightwave and Max.

Additionally, there are some good and helpful people around here so if you get stuck on something, feel free to post a question or comment. Odds are pretty high that somebody around here will be able to help you out. If not, then at least point you in the direction of a tutorial.

::EDIT::
I threw this clip in here as an example of some of my work.
It's not perfect but it was pretty good.

I hope to get the tutorials here!!.. in the future of all the programs possible in the new year to be here so we won´t have to seen anyone to other site ..

that will be our mission directive ..

Lightwave, 3dmax, Poser, Daz, Zbrush, & Cararra are all encouraged to be here, and start sharing ideas and techniques.

it does not matter how good you are .... I had a lot of help from many people
when I started .. and I have always tried to pay that back by paying in forward.

..

Good .. looking forward to seen it.. and don´t worry if you don´t like our advice if we give it. or have something to give in the first place. some times you still want to go you own way .. that's fine.

its your project and your vision.

we only want to come along for the ride

I'm using Poser 8. It seems ok but I haven't tried any other program so I wouldn't be able to compare them. Oh, I'm also using Photoshop to do the comic.

Hello Chris.
Nice to meet you... Amiga?!
Man, that's cool.
I remember back when I had my C=64 I would have sold my sister to gypsies if I could have gotten an Amiga out of the deal. Ok, I would have sold her anyway...but the Amgia would have been a bonus!

Run on posting like that can get you in trouble. Try finding finished art threads and commenting on them.

happens some times . no worry ..

most site have it this way and discourage posting comments that at times have noting to do with the thread or just to gain posts to say download models or avail other site features..

If you a artist or modeller (I only really model 3d that is not the other)
we want to encourage you to post your work here and our job is keep the threads clean and not cluttered with posts that have nothing to do with anything...

I see your a lightwave user.. like myself..hope to have some chats about it and see some art or models too

but again welcome and we hope you enjoy your time here..

Okay ... hi there, I'm Catherine3678a.

For a few months now I've been using Daz3dAdvanced, PSPX2 and Hexagon for my 3d efforts.

My main contributions to date have been images for textures which I've uploaded at sharecg.com under the same handle.
There's also a few 3d models, a couple of which are of the SciFi gendre.

I have an edition of Carrara lite too ... but haven't quite figured how best to use that program yet. The idea that most things are invisible until you render them just doesn't make sense to me.

Catherine3678a if you PM me, I can probably help you get that straightened out.
I'm not familiar with Carrara Life (never heard of it actually) I am however pretty good with Carrara 6,7 & 8 Pro.

If I can help you with something, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you! I'll keep that in mind for the new year. Still sorting out all those files I purchased in the huge sale at Daz3d. [note to self, don't shop when tired]

Carrara 7 Lite ... lite as in it's the edition that came with no manual and doesn't do everything it's big brother does. It was not being upgraded to 8 and so I got it at a very good intro price. I did get my hands on a pdf manual for the full edition [nice folks in the Daz forums helped me there] so "one day" if I should live long enough lol ...

Ah, makes sense now.

Well, I spent quite a bit of time in C7pro. I'd still be using it if not for C8pro.

I've seen some very nice artwork produced in C8. Sometimes it just timing for something to click in ... and then things will happen.

Right now though, as I'm learning the art, Daz3d seems to be the one I can better work my way through. And I'm loving Hexagon ... crashes and all!

Hi catherine3678a, I hope that you will post some of your art here too. we have a number of models in our download area. but we also like to see the art produced too

there are only 2 No No´s here, Galactica related art that is for our sister site
http://www.colonialfleets.com/forums/ and Nude art that is a No.

Fretslayer has been using those programs and I have seen his work improve and expand over the last 2 years or so.. you could not have a better guide

Thank you ... and I'm very happy to know that I'm welcome to put clothes on the models! I love making textures and one needs clothes to show those off.

Yes I felt quite encouraged by Fretslayer ... even opened Carrara this morning. Loaded a couple of items, applied a couple of shaders .. and clicked on another item ... and zap! Got part of the item showing up as like a skeleton framework??? Gonna be a long process learning that program.

As to the downloads, sigh ... Poser and D/S do not open Lightwave ... so I put a request on a couple of items there ... we need .obj files at least to import into Daz Studio. It is a little fussy as to what it likes or not with .obj files but lightwave is a complete no-go. Also, for anybody converting objects for DazStudio and/or Poser ... these are "little" programs ... people are "little" ... programs are designed for "little" objects, not 100s of mbs please. Aim for under 10 mb. That's not a fixed figure ... have loaded files over 100 but they are definitely more problematic. ty

oh yes, last night I uploaded the .cr2 file for Kookie and a new texture and background image for those interested.
Kookie is a cookie for the Aliens in your Runtime ;-)
http://ShareCG.com/v/46788/view/Pose...e-updated_plus

?
I looked for tutorials under the Daz3d/Poser ... found absolutely nothing there. Did I miss a link or is it waiting to be started? BTW, "Daz3d" is the name of the company. [some over there are rather hyper about this] The program is DazStudio, D/S for short.

edit: for the Tutorials, "Other" ... might I suggest Hexagon. Many people just acquired that program recently when it was on sale for $1.88 for a day ;-)

Clothes are always needed. Naked people on alien planets is a niche market.

Thanks for the compliment. If you can take a screen shot and share it with me, I can help you resolve the issue. It's probably something quite simple. I've had Carrara do that to me in the past but it was because I accidentally deleted part of the model. Carrara, once you get the swing of it, is a really awesome program. I do 90% of my character animations with it and until I started working on my current project, I did 100% of my animations with it.

As to the downloads, sigh ... Poser and D/S do not open Lightwave ... so I put a request on a couple of items there ... we need .obj files at least to import into Daz Studio. While it is true that Poser and D|S cannot open a Lightwave file... Carrara can. I do a lot of converting from every other type to Carrara/D|S/Poser and I use Deep Exploration for it. Some models come out larger than others but that has more to do with the original artist's model than anything else. Taranis however it awesome at cleaning up the poly count on them.

There may not be any tutorials for those apps yet because we've only recently started getting enough users of them to warrant having them in the tutorials section. I'll do a few for Carrara (I have C7pro and C8pro) and I'll make sure that whatever the tut is, it works with both versions. And Yes, a lot of people get the name of the company (Daz) confused with their products.

edit: for the Tutorials, "Other" ... might I suggest Hexagon. Many people just acquired that program recently when it was on sale for $1.88 for a day ;-)
I've done a few models in Hexagon but it was a long time ago and when I fire it up now, it looks bizarre to me. There are a few people I know who do model in it so I can ask them if they'd like to do a tut or two. $1.88? Wow, that's a heck of a deal!

Sadly, Carrara 7 Lite would not open the Lightwave files either.

Program is on another computer:
So now ... in order to get the "import" option available at all, first it seems I have to have some object in the loading zone ... so I have imported "leo" ... now I have the import option, so try for importing "the bridge" ... "all file types" ... lightwave is simply not an option. Neither is opening a lightwave file ... 'all file types' ... simply doesn't see them period.

....

I'm not an expert ... but have had Hexagon for awhile now and have learned how to do some basic modeling and uvmapping with it. It's an essential program to use with D/S to make "figures"! [well, I guess any modeling program could do the job but Hex does it and for the price it's a good program. I paid around $50 for it months ago ... and that was a good price at the time so yeah, those who got it for $1.88 did very well!]

What I didn't see though in the tut place, was how to start the very first thread? Maybe that's something the moderators do?
