No, that's what sucks. The author of the article said he didn't include Pantone, Federal standard, etc. numbers since some (of most?) modellers don't have them. I guess you'll have to get your ass down to a Walmart. Basically, it's grey with a slight bit of green. I'm getting start tweaking my Federation greys a bit.

not quite correct.
I have that article. If you want an exact color I suggest you use the exact paint chip Richard C. Datin (primary construction contractor of the original E model) picked out.
Go to SEARS, and find Sear Weatherbeater StonyHurst Grey(KK261). That is the chip Datin says is most exact.
I have it. As far as I can tell, it matches RGB 176-191-189. But rgb looks different on each monitor.

Thanks for the doing the legwork, Thomas. Kmart and Sears are both a bit hard for me to get to at the moment.

Whoa!!! Masao's drawing, I just posted it. As far as my 2D skills go - imagine a white sheet, imagine a #2 pencil, imagine being asked to draw a straight line, imagine a zigzag result - that's about the best I can do

I used the RGB numbers Thomas7G provided, but found that because of the scale effect the color was a bit to dark for this drawing. So, for the basic color I used RGB 195 212 209 rather than 176 191 189 and used dark and light tints of it for all shadows and highlights. I think the subtle green tint adds a nice bit of color to the old girl. Unfortunately, now I'll have to go back and redraw all my ships. Thomas7G, are you know using this greenish gray for your ships?
I suggest we refer to this gray, or shades of it, as "Starfleet gray" and demand that Gunze, Tamiya, and Testors, come out bottles of it for painting our model kits.

yup. Remember colors on a white background look darker. On a black backgrund they look lighter. Also lighting can make a huge difference
Then of course your monitor is set different from mine
btw I checked out pantones. I think its between PMS 5507 CVC and PMS 5497 CVC.

*slaps forehead* I forgot about that. Unlike you modelers, I always work on white backgrounds for both computer and paper. Well, at least the scale effect thing is true, but, of course, there's no atmospheric diffusion (?) in space (although I know that many effects houses add it when shooting spaceship miniatures.)

I must not have been paying attention "SMACK"!. I was going to have an art guy in my office match chips to his pantone charts - of course that meant a trip to ugh - Sears.
I'll go with the RGB you guy's came up with - oh no - all new texture maps!

Sometimes when I want to make a drawing match a certain color I usually do this:
Open the drawing/texture in photoshop
Create a new layer above the texture. And create a solid block filled with the color of the rgb settings above.
Then adjust your premade texture with hue/saturation/curves tinting etc until you see a close match.
