Patriot Class Engineering Set
Do not adjust your computer monitor, what your are seeing is actually real. I am finally posting a WIP for the first time in God knows how long. This is something I told PepeWan I would do over two years ago and then completely forgot about. This is the engineering set for his Patrio Class:
http://home.earthlink.net/~joemcmull...-schematic.jpg
Also, since I usually get complaints for waiting until the set is nearly finished before rendering adn posting anything, I decided to fie off a render of the very first bulkhead, hot off the industrial replicators:
What you are seeing here is one of what will ultimately be a chain of about thirty of the bulkheads with the warp core resting horizontally through the center rings. The original shape for this was produced in Illustrator (borrowing a page from Tobian's playbook), then loaded into truespace and filleted there (the Round Corners effect in Illustrator behaves VERY badly with curved shapes).

BTW, I am aware of the segmentation. TrueSpace did that when it imported the Illustrator file and I could find no way to adjust it (anyone have any ideas?). I don't think it'll matter too much anyway in the final images.

Couldn't resist stringing a few of them together:
That's every bit as quick and dirty as it looks. They won't be nearly that close together, I think. The space is about two and a half stories tall, with the half floor as a crawlspace at the bottom. The camera is at about eye level from the first floor. The second floor is just about where the top set of beams connect with the center rings.

Just for giggles...
Here's the warp core ejection hatch...
And a rough idea of the deck layout, although I imagine the decks may step up and down as necessary in the somewhat cramped aft portion of the ship.

Damn; had no idea it was that friggin tiny - that basically eliminated the two story engineering idea, which really blows. Is there any way at all you could squeeze another deck in there? Otherwie we might just have to settle for a reappreance of the tardis effect.

Yes, it's a Little Starship...
This is very rough, but I think there's room for a 2-Deck Main Engineering...

That would work, I think, with the antimatter stores being located aft of the core in the ejection tube, so that when the core is ejected, the volatile antimatter goes with it. That'd also provide easy access to the antimatter for servicing through the same hatch. Matter stores would be located directly above the cargobay (between it and the forward end of engineering), and be accessible through same.
Incidently, I had already figured the plasma transfer conduits would be in that location, followng the light raised panels on the pylons so that the reactor core itself would be centered directly beneath the square panel on the roof of the shuttlebay.
Assuming a twelve foot deck height (floor to floor, leaving plenty of space between decks for equipment), that'd make the red box on your diagram about 70ft long. Would you say that's accurate?

You're on the same wavelength as me. You've just described pretty much everything I was thinking when I designed the aft section (or rather, when I was rationalizing how things would fit in there).

Sounds about right. That'll actually help me out since I can have shorter decks in the engineering room and still not be too short. That also means it'll be longer than I though too, which is even better.

BTW, mind making those links instead of inlined images? Or, better yet, post thumbnails linked to the bigguns. They're making the quickreply box go so wide that I have to scroll horizontally on ym screen (1024x768).

Thanks for editing the links.
Here's an update:
The cylindar visible in both renders is 6.25 feet tall, to give a sense of the scale of the set. The black line cutting through the center of both renders shows about where the upper deck will be. The bulkheads are more or less final at this point. The walls are temporary, but do represent fairly well what the final set will look like, excepting portions to be cut out of the side walls.

Holy cow! Seanr lives! I just about fell out of my chair. Nice to see your work again.
Building in 2 decks into that space will be tricky. Perhaps a slightly smaller than average height would work?

Regarding the decks, that is precisely my intention.

Re: Patriot Class Engineering Set
I can do it when I get back to DC, otherwise and admin could fix them by stripping the gallery/seanr/temp part from the URLs so they'd all be http://webolutionary.com/truespace/image_name.jpg

Adjusted in this thread.
I think I did this once before You keep changing directories!

Re: Patriot Class Engineering Set
Did a Replacement Variable change forum wide, changing / to / (thus eliminating the gallery/seanr/temp portion of the URLs). Some images showed up, some simply aren't there.
