Bubba Smith dies at 66

Police Academy actor Bubba Smith has been found dead at his home in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter said Smith, 66, was found at his Baldwin Hills property.

Mr Winter says he did not know the circumstances nor the cause of death.

Police spokesman Richard French said the death did not appear to be suspicious.

Smith, a former American football star spent five seasons with the Baltimore Colts and two seasons each with Oakland and Houston.

But the 6ft 7in player found a second career as an actor and was best known for his role as softly-spoken police officer Moses Hightower in the Police Academy films.

I liked him in the Police Academy series sad news, he was a good actor.

I saw this on IMDb this morning. You're right, it's a darn shame. I too enjoyed him in the Police Academy movies. I didn't know about his football career either (before my time) but it doesn't surprise me. He was built like a football player. RIP, Bubba Smith.

BTW, on both IMDb and Yahoo, they say it looks like natural causes.
