Section 31: Black Ops
Well I'm back. I got my new computer working and I've finally got Max 6 installed. So I've decided to start on something new. After recently watching the new two disc version of Star Trek: Insurrection, I decided to do something like the holoship. I thought maybe section 31 could have a couple of ships flying around quietly taking care of business. This ship will be heavily armored and armed and have no isignias or signage outside the ship. This based on several concept sketches one mainly done by John Eaves.

Well, it's not far enough along yet for a non-modeller like myself to comment intelligently, but I think the basic shape has a lot of potential. And knowing you, it'll certainly have a lot of detail when it's done. I can't wait to see what you do with it.
It does look right shape-wise for Section 31 - they'd want something imposing yet mysterious. But what are we looking at in terms of size?

Thank you.
I'm thinking about 200 to 250 meters in length. Could even be smaller, I'll put more thought into it as I go along.

A little bit more work done. It's very rough right now but it'll get better soon.

Nice idea
It stands to reason though doesn't it - a top secret organisation like that would not wont to solely rely on "normal" starfleet vessels and personal to get their mission done

Thought I'd let ya know the placement of the Warp and Impulse engines. I've also got two places for the bridge, personally I like the aft one but either way I'll keep both parts.

I like the placement on the aft. A more important question is which way is forward?

I was just gonna ask the same question...
I say go with the smaller of those two structures as the bridge area, and use the larger one as a torpedo launcher or something.

The smaller one is the bridge and it's at the frront of the ship.
That#s coming along nicely BTW.

Right now after blocking in most of the shapes other the bottom, not at all sure what's going on down there.
I'm focusing on getting the impulse engines done or close to it. As you can see I've already tested a texture for them. Yes they are very large but I like the way they look so I'm keeping them the way they are. I also don't intend to have to much detail on them.

Things are finally starting to move more along on this. I've finalized the impulse texture and added a gold frame around it that I like very much.
I had an idea of this ship having a rear klingon torpedoe launcher but then I thought it might hvae parts and tech used from wreckage left over from the dominion war. So there could be Romulan, Klingon, Cardassian, Breen and Dominion tech hiding in this ship. Just a thought.

The gold rim adds a nice touch to the impulse engine. I see you've already started detailing...

How could I not.
Here's a scale pic.
Things are getting fleshed out more.

Dimension-wise, that's rather small, but I'm sure the shape of it would allow a lot of internal volume. I bet that thing could hold a crew of 500 or more...

It wouldn't really be that small, since most of the internal volume is empty space. Just look at a building. From the outside it may not seem like much but once you're inside it seems bigger.

Sorry it took a while to respond but Iwas haveing trouble with my modem so I got a new one and things to be ok. I hope.
Anyway now that I look at it, it looks too big to me. I was thinking something closer to the Defiant with a crew of less than 50. But the size of this thing will probably go up and down before I'm finished with it.

It's been a few days since my last update so here are things so far. I worked on some details and added lights to the two shuttle bay doors.

Lots of work since I last checked in! Great detail, looking great. The rear sort of remindes me of looking at a large ferry!?!

Thanks.
I didn't realize that it was still open because I thought the voting had already begun.
I am thinking I might drop something for next months mesh contest. I'll have to see because most of my old meshs don't enjoy being opened in MAX 6.

UPDATE...
I've added some details to the back bridge section. Yes I decided to make the back part the bridge. I've also made the cut out for the warp engines.

I don't recall the warp engine positioning. Is it going to be where that blue object is now?

I thought that giant cut out on the side would have been enough of a give away. But yes that is going to be the placement for the warp engines. That big blue part is just the object I'm useing for booleaning.
