Default LWO v.9 and Alpha Mapping

Ok, so I'm stuck in a corner with LWO and need directions how to get out.

I'm making a basic Buck Rogers for Taranis and I'm stuck on the hair.

In the software I use there are easy alpha mapping controls and I'm doing what I think is the LWO way of alpha mapping but I'm getting this as a result.

In the surface editor I have my hair map imported, the bump map imported and in the transparency slot I have the alpha map imported. See that big white thing on the forehead? Yeah, well that shouldn't be visible.

The hair is Mylocha's 'Sulu' hair for his Trek people -hey, it has the saw 'swoop' that Gil Gerard had so I figured why not? LOL!

Any thoughts on this you LWO gurus?
