Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
Starship posted this on 3DSciFi and I had to share it here. Bryce 7 PLE (Personal Learning Edition) for free:
http://www.daz3d.com/i/software/bryce/download
The only thing about the PLE license is that you can't use it for commercial uses but it's a fully functional version of Bryce, normally $49.99 (upgrade) to $249.99 (pro) USD. I don't see a time limit on that one, but you might not want to wait too long.
Daz Studio 4 is also free, this appears to be the full version, no license restrictions:
http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/d...o-4?item=12194
This is a special sale through the end of next month, so don't miss out. This is a $49.99 (USD) value.
I downloaded both. The only problem I had was the required registration to get Daz. You have to sign up and sign up for their newsletter, which is fine, but I wasn't getting my activation e-mail in Yahoo. I gave it plenty of time (it's supposed to take less than 30 minutes) but I still haven't gotten it and that was a few hours ago. So, I finally used my GMail account and I got the activation e-mail in seconds. So, Yahoo users beware.

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
Bryce is pretty cool, especially if you want to do landscapes, but what I'm really wanting to use is Daz. I need to do some character work and this is the paid version, not their regular free version. So, you can do more with it. But, even if you don't use them, free is free. Also, check out the models in the Daz store, they have some free characters.

I finally got my activation e-mail from Daz in Yahoo today. It was only a couple days past that 30-minute window in which I was supposed to get it.

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
Any products from Daz3d which require a serial number to be given out ... as well as the email that the ISP eventually mails out to one ... check in your account under available serial numbers ;-)
They normally show up there almost immediately if not sooner.
Yes to grabbing the D/S4 free one this month if you want it ... it will not be free forever ... but there is to be a 'lite' version of D/S4 free next. There's also to be an advanced or pro edition which will not be free of course.
What people might want to do is grab a copy of D/S3 while it's still available as it's likely to vanish like the wind. There's a big difference between these 2 editions and not everybody is moving to 4. And not everything will work between 3 and 4.

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
Well, it's all a moot point anyway. I tried to install the free Daz 4 on my computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and it wouldn't install. Then I tried to run the uninstaller and it told me that it wasn't a proper Win32 program. So, I removed what I could using the Windows add/remove software tool and removed the rest old school (seek and destroy.) After a reboot, a second attempt ended with the same result, leading me to believe that the free Daz 4 software just isn't Windows 64-bit compatible (that would have been nice to know ahead of time. )
Bryce 7.1, on the other hand, had no problems installing on Windows 7 64-bit.

That's scary. It's supposed to work on the 64bit W7 although it is a 32bit program. Now I'm very happy that I didn't install it yet (for other reasons).
edit: As they're still working on the D/S4 set, might be a good idea to open a support ticket there and see what happens.
W7 has 2 program folders, one is for 64 bit applications the other is for 32bit. Every now and then there's a program that works better if it's installed in its own folder on the harddrive. But I haven't (yet) heard of anybody having to do that with D/S4.

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
My next step is to try Daz 4 in Linux. I'm running Linux Mint right now and I'm going to install Wine (the Microsoft compatibility layer) here in a bit. There are some good results in their app. database but those are for Linux versions from last year (the one I'm running is from this year) and nobody has apparently tested Daz 4. So, it should be interesting.
If it doesn't work, I'll try Windows again but put the files in C:/Program Files instead of where it wants to go, C:/Program Files (x86). I never thought of doing that until you mentioned it.

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
Qapla'
I don't know how well it does anything, but at least it starts. I have Wine set to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and I also installed DirectX 9. Even though Daz uses OpenGL for graphics (which Linux uses also) it uses DirectX 9 for audio. Anywho, it works.

Well if you got it working, great, but for W7 that wasn't quite what I meant ... that Program folder is for 64bit AFAIK. I meant directly into its very own folder like:

Yeah, that might work. I don't know. I might try it again in Windows later. Though you can run some Windows programs in Linux, none run as well as they do in Windows.

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
I had other problems with software not working in Windows 7 64-bit. However, this is where building your own computer and buying Windows in the box comes in handy. Since it comes with both discs, I installed 32-bit Windows instead. Daz installed properly, I just have to update my graphics drivers and I'll be set.

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
I'm using DS4 for most of my compositions and renders, and there are massive changes to earlier versions of the software...
...The good thing is that UberEnvironment2 comes as standard with the standard version (it was only available in DS3Advanced). It also introduces the next generation of figure, the amazingly versatile "Genesis" although DAZ are really dragging out releasing the morphs that everybody wants (and they'll probably cost a pretty penny to purchase too - the morphs are all extra - but I've already spent enough to consider myself commited to the project). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTBBnc2SJ90
That said, DS4 is currently free because of issues they're in the process of ironing out (it does not currently support dynamic cloth and the auto-fit plugin is pretty hopeless with shoes and armour)... the e.t.a. for an update is Sept/Oct and the price tag will be added at the same time, and DS4 Advanced will go on sale too (which will have full 64bit support but will probably cost $180-$200 at a guess).
For best results, I'd change the default render settings to:
Bucket Size: 32 (reduce to 8 if you got an old PC like me, but I been told 32 is optimum for fur, blurring and volumeric objects)
Max Ray Trace Depth: 2
Pixel Samples (X): 6
Pixel Samples (Y): 6
Shadow Samples: 32
Gain: 1.00
Gamma: 1.00
Shading Rate: 2.00 (this is OPPOSITE to Poser settings - the lower the number in DS4, the higher the quality... but lower than 2 greatly increases render time for negligible improvement to quality)
Pixel Filter - Sinc
Pixel Filter Width (X): 6.00
Pixel Filter Width (Y): 6.00
For the basics of UberEnvironment2, omnifreaker has posted a video here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlKMMeTY3h8
or Dreamlight3D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wzja...eature=related

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
Just remember, though, Daz 4 is only free until the end of the month. I don't know how long it will be after that before they get around to releasing the free edition for free. So, even if you don't install it, you might at least want to download it.

Hexagon is as well. Either they're rerunning the offer or it never ended.

There's a guy over at SFM who did a beautiful Ambassador class and is working on a Miranda class in Hexagon. Seeing his work kinda makes me want to take a look at it.

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
I've downloaded daz studio 4 pro time ago for free from daz site, and installed on my windows 7 64 pc.
Recently I've downloaded and installed Hexagon.
In Daz Studio 4 there are now function Send to Hexagon, that's more useful to modify model.

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
Not sure if this has been posted before or not but the free Daz Studio Pro being offered has been upgraded from version 4 to 4.5. I'm not sure what the difference is between the versions as I haven't downloaded the new version yet.
Hexagon 2.5 and Bryce 7 are still available for free as well.
Download and prosper

Re: Free Daz Studio 4 and Bryce 7
You know, I have taken a run at Daz 4 several time and hit it like a wall. Is it just me or it that revision practically designed to be user hostile? To me, Daz 3 is very intuitive while Daz 4 just seems to be fighting me at every turn. Anyone else find this to be the case or am I just an old guy getting grumpy?
