As much as I like Stargate, this Stargate:Atlantis angle sounds pretty bad.
They are turning a show that could play things loose and free into a "quest" type show where they have to always fail otherwise the premise is over. It just doesn't make for a very compelling plot, and has never really worked well.
You'll end up with crap like Voyager was.

Seriously, I spent 7 seasons hoping Janeway would get blown out an airlock or turned into splatter by explosive decompresion.
20 minutes into the premiere episode, I found myself thinking "oh god she's annoying"
janeway is the only female I have ever seen that had a 7 year straight case of PMS.
And that is me being kind.
