Susannah York has died from cancer
The mother of Superman The Movie (Christopher Reeve) has pass away
Actress Susannah York, one of the most memorable film faces of the 1960s, has died from cancer aged 72, British media reported late on Saturday.
York was best known for her role opposite Jane Fonda in the 1969 film "They Shoot Horses Don't They?" for which she was nominated for an Oscar.
"She was an absolutely fantastic mother, who was very down to earth," her son, actor Orlando Wells, told the Sunday Telegraph newspaper.
"She loved nothing more than cooking a good Sunday roast and sitting around a fire of a winter's evening. In some sense, she was quite a home girl."
A quintessential English rose with her blonde hair, blue eyes and fresh-faced complexion, along with Julie Christie and Sarah Miles, she was one of the most recognisable actresses from films in the 1960s, winning a swathe of male admirers.
She achieved international fame in such classic movies as "Tom Jones" and "A Man For All Seasons" and starred opposite the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift and Peter O'Toole.
Her film roles became less notable during the 1970s, although she appeared in the box office smash "Superman,"

Re: Susannah York has died from cancer
Damn. Same age as my mom when she also passed away due to cancer.
Thoughts to her family and friends.
I enjoyed her as Lara in the Superman movies.

Re: Susannah York has died from cancer
The first film I saw her in was the Battle of Britain back in 69. Good actress and too young to go. My thoughts are with her family.

Battle of Britain is a great film ... she played a girlfriend or husband of Christopher Plummer who is badly burned etc

Re: Susannah York has died from cancer
That's a shame. I never saw her in anything else, so I'll always know her as Lara. I can't believe this happened over two weeks ago and I never saw an announcement about it anywhere.
However, it's Christopher Reeve, not Reeves. George Reeves played Superman in the '50s. Christopher Reeve (no "s" in the last name and no relation) played him in the '70s and '80s.

I know but it was a direct copy and paste. I never noted the error myself.

Re: Susannah York has died from cancer
Too many people make that mistake. In fact, I was just on Yahoo! and they announced the new actor for the next Superman movie and a lot of people call him Christopher Reeves in their comments.
