Default Fake DVD Cover Test

I've been working on some DVD covers for the business I'm starting (converting VHS and 8MM home videos to DVD) and I thought I'd share a little test I whipped up.

Note - the image I used for the front cover is from Tobias Richter, and was used only for this test.

This looks pretty nice when printed and put into a DVD case, too.

Very nice. Just make sure, though, when you're doing stuff like the Star Trek font with the outline, that you have enough resolution for it to print without bluring like it does in this scaled down image. If you're doing them in Illustrator you won't have to worry about that.

This is a reduced-resolution image. The actual production images I use are about 3200 x 2200 pixels in size, and on a 2400 x 1200 dpi printer, the results are more than acceptable.

I'm also in the process of re-designing the DVD covers for all those Warner snap-cases I have in my movie collection - it's proving fun and daunting at the same time...

The ones I have are just too flimsy. They don't really fit the shelf like the plastic cases do, and the spindles where the disc sits tend to break pretty easily. Not to mention that if I go to pull one out, it's almost a certainty that the thing will snap open and dump the disc on the floor.

Besides, I like shiny things better.
