Default BSG 2K Pops set to go to auction

Ok, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but I don't dare mention this 'evil show' over at the CF website.

I figured that being fans of models and such that it might be worth sharing this here.

'Battlestar Galactica' Props Go to Auction
Nov. 6, 2008, 2:38 PM EST

Zap2It.com

Diehard "Battlestar Galactica" fans sorry to see the show end can have a piece of their beloved show to clutch to their broken hearts.

NBC Universal, which owns Sci Fi Channel, has set up an auction for "Battlestar Galactica's" props, costumes and set pieces for the weekend of January 16, coinciding with the return of the series for its final run, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Among some of the coveted items will be Tricia Helfer's slinky red dress she wore to play the cylon Number Six, Admiral Adama's (Edward James Olmos) desk, multiple costumes for each of the main characters and space ship props.

The auction will take place at the Pasadena Convention Center and will be a blowout event for fans who will fly in from around the world. Plans for the event include a preview day, two auction days, panels with the series' designers, an online auction and weekly follow-up auctions that will coincide with the final "BSG" episodes that will run through March 20.

Part of the proceeds will go to the United Way.

Well... considering the same guy owns and operates both CF and here...

CGI/Physical props and ships type of models, not soft porn models

Guess they want the buyer to sniff the dress or something...

What's up with that rule anyway? How can you have a BSG site and talk only about the classic BSG? Sure, I love classic BSG a much as the next guy but how many times can you have a discussion about the same handful of 30-year-old episodes? And it's not like the new BSB is totally bad (I like it.) It's not as good as the original but then it's not supposed to really be a "remake," so they did things differently.

BTW, it would be BSG 2K3, not BSG 2K, since the mini-series premiered in 2003.

Actually I think that BSG 2.0 would make more sense.
As for the other site - I had somebody from around them thar parts gave me a two chapter explanation as to why it's the 'forbidden subject'.

I understand why they made the choice they did although I don't agree with it.

Maybe it's the time I spent in the music business that gives me the 'I don't care' about the personal B.S that took place between BSG:-2 and BSG:2k3 v.2.
In the entertainment business there are two things to keep in mind.
One it's a business and at the end of the day the people who green light projects only care about one thing - GREEN (or perhaps those colorful Euros too.)
And people steal each other's creative ideas all of the time.
Don't you guys think it's quite the coincodence that both DS9 and Babylon 5 were on TV at the same time? You know why that is right?

As for the new show. I read about the character changes and stuff and I so very much wanted to hate the new show. I remember when the mini-series came on and I sat there...all full of 'I'm gonna hate this show!' coursing through my veins. Oh I was going to just rip it apart.

By the end of it I was a total fan.
I've been hooked on it ever since.
I like where they went with the writing.
Nothing against the original show -I was a kid when the show was in original airings and I watched it every week - but it was about as cheesy as ST:TOS was at times.
The only thing sillier than 'Hippies in Space' are 'Nazis in Space'.

I'm currently animating a series of short webisodes for a six part (35 minute total running time) animated film for Dan over at BattlestarFanFilms.com and it tells a wild story that takes the viewer from the BSG:tos and throws them across time/space and ends up in the BSG 2K3 v.2.0

I know there will be some poeple who will hate my animation because of the new BSG things that happen in it but I don't care - the story is way cool and has some brutally nasty moments that take place.

Plus there are character tie ins that explain a lot about the BSG universe and others that hasn't been approached in a story that I've ever seen, heard or read. That's one of the reasons why I'm trying to get my hands on a DeSanto Centurian.

Yeah, I've seen the two chapter explanation about why it's a "forbidden" subject back when I used to occasionally post over there. I don't agree with it either. To me, it would be like having a Superman forum and telling people that they can only talk about Superman comics from before they restarted/revamped the comics in the '80s. (in the classic Man of Steel mini-series) But that's just my take on it. It's their forum and they're entitled to do what they want. At least they let people post new BSG art, since much of the art that's currently being done with BSG revolves around that show.

As far as the series, I like it also. I went into it open-minded, even though I grew up on the original. I usually like remakes, when they're done well (like King Kong and War of the Worlds.) As I already said, it's not the original but it's not supposed to be. It's a lot more raw and gritty than the original, which follows the trend that more TV shows have taken since the '70s. I like how it's mostly done with current technology, the only main exceptions being the Cylons themselves and the FTL drives the ships have. There isn't too much else on those ships that we don't have with modern technology. In fact, some of it is even pretty outdated.

I totally agree about the look/feel of the show. Part of what I thought was kind of cool was how the Cylons took out the whole fleet via their computer network and since the Galactica was an 'old piece of junk' it didn't have the high-tech networking connections.

I thought that was pretty clever and I also dig how they don't have it so good on that ship.

Nothing against the old show (like I said, I grew up with it on the tv and all of the toys laying around my room) but I never once got the feeling they were in danger - like it was get to Earth or die. With the new show it has that nightmare feeling of running endlessly from a 'boogeyman' you don't understand. Raw desperation.

The original show (while still fun to watch) is at this point (speaking only for me and the people I hang out with) a comedy. Like 'Quark' only with better effects.

Something I enjoy about the new show are the story arcs. You get the episode arc, the season arc and the whole saga arc. It makes for a more interesting show IMO.

Since I'm not expecting to find or get a hold of a DeSanto style Centurian I've begun putting together my own Frankenstein version out of parts of various meshes I have. So far I'm getting a pretty close look.

I also agree about remakes - they've got to be good though. I'm so far beyond sick of the lame remakes of every 70s horror film. There was nothing wrong with either The Amityville Horror or The Fog...Why remake them?

Then there are remakes which are so far beyond the original that they're remakes, but they're film unto themselves. The remake of 'The Fly' comes quickly to mind.

I watched as a film critic (can't recall who at the moment) was speaking with Vincent Price and the critic was shredding the 'Fly' remake and going on and on about how this was awful, that was horrible, and so on...he looked at Vince and said 'Don't you agree?'.

Price looked at him and asked him if he had actually seen the film and how it was 100x better than the original.

The look on the critic's face was priceless.
The look on Vincent Price's face was satisfaction.

Alrighty then! Full on nuBG discussion here at 3DG!!!

(too bad you've only posted a TINY portion of the story... and since I was personally involved in the shenanigans of how this new show came into existence... and since it appears I have to explain everything at least once a year... I'll do just that when I get some time to).

So folks... discuss the Ron Moore Battlestar Galactica television show that is even better than sliced bread!

Oh... and before any of you post that you're going to leave because of my attitude towards the new Galactica, etc etc?

Don't bother.

Just leave.
