Stuck With A Huge Problem
Most people know I'm setting up a database of stuff for RPG fans as well as other people who need info on certain things.
One of these database's is about starship classes and such.
I hate images that have credits on them, because I think they spoil the image themselves, so I have instead placed the credits off the picture and onto a seperate page so they get the credit for there picture, but not on the picture itself.
I know it upsets a lot of people, but I don't know any other way. Because of this, I am starting again. Kenny_Z, Katana and Ascension have been kind to allow me to use their three ships, which I am giving them credit for.
If you three decide that this idea is not accepted by you and want it on the picture itself, then that is fine, I will delete the image and the class *sadly*
Because of this, I was wondering:
1: Does anyone have a suggestion that I haven't thought of, which would be happy for both me and the artists themselves
2: Anyone willing to allow me to use their pictures, and give credit for them and for the people's who's meshes they've used.
Any responce will be greatful, as I'm stuck, and I want to make my site look nice, without any text on the picture's themselves.
Thanks for any ideas you might have on this subject.

If it were me, I would want credits on the image. I hate image clutter as much as you do, but I think a lot of modellers would agree that a bit of clutter in one corner of your image is much better than seeing that image plastered all over the web as another person's work.
However...
How about making the first image for each class a no-credits thumbnail, about 300 pixels or so in width? Then, you click the thumbnail, and the full-sized image appears, with the credits applied.
This way, your main database image has no credits, but it's not big enough that an image thief would be interested in it.
There's my thoughts. Anyone else?

Even though some credits give discredit to the image they are neccessary and a must..unless individual artist specifically give permission there is no way around them
I may not be as awesome as some of the artist around here but the few kewl images I have created I would like the world to know it was me...sorry that be my opinion
not to mention it is law of thhe forum is it not?

That's okay. I haven't, or will never steal or take people's images without asking.
I have asked a few and got turned down many a time, but luckily, I have found some others who are willing (in which I am greatful) to allow me to put their images without any credits on them, and putting their names on my credit page.
I thank you all for giving me advice.
Thanks

There's probably a happy medium somewhere between leaving credits off the image, and covering up an eighth of the image with huge honking credits like:
Thermal Pod Mesh by JOHN BIGBOOTÉ
Oscillation Overthruster Mesh by JOHN GOMEZ
Watermelon Mesh by JOHN SMALL BERRIES
Perhaps the images could be marked with something a bit more sedate than the usual 36- to 48-point credits -- like 10- or 12-point text? That way, the artist is still credited, but the viewer can enjoy the picture without as much of a distraction.
(Additional suggestion: how about including a client-side image map which defines the area containing the credits as a link leading to the artist's homepage?)

I'm been looking into doing a small text of the picture created by and the name of the artist in a darkish colour, so not to distract you, but still crediting the person.
Think that'll work???

I like how I do it. I put the logo on image and then fade it off into the background. If you dull it enough you can read the credits but it's not distracting from the image.
