Well, anything's possible. I mean, they found a way to make blond hair and blue-eyed Denise Crosby a Romulan. I'm sure you could always BS a back story like they did for her.

Oh yeah, of course. Hell could be from one of the farther off planets in the empire :P From a group of redheaded rommies that the Feddies have never seen LOL

Re: Ongoing project
I have a couple of books from the '80s written by Diane Carey where she has a Vulcan character who has red hair. He's supposed to have been from a smaller, lesser-known province on Vulcan. Maybe your Romulan's ancestors came from that province when they fled Vulcan after the war.

Re: Ongoing project
They're called Dreadnought! and Battlestations! and they're two of my favorite ST books. Dreadnought! was the first ST book I ever read, when I was in about the 7th grade or so.

Re: Ongoing project
Not a huge update, but I think I have FINALLY finalized the main characters ship's bridge. Took a lot of revisions and crumpled up papers, but I have a sketch I LIKE :P
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...g?t=1235623542
chairs on the left were omitted from the sketch so that they would not block details.
Also the ship has been named, Fenrir, and I have been revising the eterior design as well.

I will have some cleaner sketches of this stuff sometime soon.

Re: Ongoing project
Just read through this thread (and the comic pages with the psycho tribble)... fun stuff!
I personally like the anime styling of the characters and comedic action in those pages.
Be interesting to see this modeled out with something like DAZ3D or Poser.
Keep up the good work!

Re: Ongoing project
Thanks Rook3 I am glad you like what you are seeing.
I doubt any of this will ever end up in 3d. I am terrible with 3d programs and just don't have the patience for them lol! But expect plenty more drawn art to come

Besides, I was just thinking recently about how much of a pain in the ass it would be to do a comic or graphic novel totally in 3D. I think animating a movie would be easier. With a both, you have to build everything, but with a comic, you have to position each piece for each panel precisely and render them separately. Plus, since it's a still image, you have to do everything higher quality than you do for animation. And then there's the post processing, trimming and resizing the panels, repositioning them, which could take a long time if it's a really huge comic. And all of that is before you even add the speech bubbles and story boxes. It would probably take less time to draw, ink and color a comic by hand.

Re: Ongoing project
Yeah, trying to do a comic in a 3d program would be a total pain in the backside, wouldn't it? :P More fun to just draw it hehe
Anyways! Working on designing the cover for issue 1 now. Did this sketch up tonight and decided to throw in a splash of color :P

Re: Ongoing project
Interesting cover design. It tells you very little about the comic, but I guess that's what the inside is for.

Re: Ongoing project
That's true. My comment certainly wasn't meant as a criticism. I think there are a couple schools of thought in comic covers. Some are almost (or even are) a panel in themselves and give you an idea of what's inside. Others are just a simple image or two to get you intrigued by what might be inside. Yours is definitely the 2nd.

Re: Ongoing project
Never took it as a criticism man And yes the plan was for this cover, and probably the ones to follow, to be more eye candy than hints at the plot. I want to leave the interior art for the interior for now. though later I may change plans on cover design *shruggs* will see how things go hehe
working on the pencils for the final cover drawing. Note that this is on much larger paper now, so the top and bottom are chopped off...my scanner is smaller than the paper LOL!

in the process of sketching in cool details and such before I get down to inking it

Re: Ongoing project
Nice work. I'd suggest cleaning up the edges on the lettering (they're kinda like sawblade edges right now) but other than that both the image and title graphic look great.

Re: Ongoing project
that was intended actually. I had it smooth originally, but liked this better :P call me crazy but it reminds me of the title graphics on some of the old console games from the late 80's

:P
Well, we now have technicolor! Working on putting in shadows and highlights now. And the backgrounds not there yet either.
Going to also add a bit of a 'hair light'...yes photographic term here... to the left side, After getting into the coloring, I noticed that the main characters arm vanishes into the others hair with the shadows and dark hair :P

That looks awesome, dude. Great artwork and color work. The way you did the colors really gives it that great comic feel, IMO.

Thanks! I'm glad you like how it came out too. I just cannot explain how happy I am at how this came out, and how excited I am. I have been working on this for a long time (very slowly) and having this cover image done just makes me feel like I have cleared some massive hurdle :P
