Default MEMORY (MB) errors?

I have 4 seperate 512MB memory chips.....for a total of 2048MB but yet Windows and CMOS states I only have 1792MB

WHY?

This may sound real dumb, but are you SURE their all 512 chips. Sound to me like one may be a 256.

Maybe check them one at a time?

Again, this is just what I would do, and I'm no tech head.
