Galactica Conversion
wjaspers over at SciFi Meshes had created the remake Galactica in Max format.
Wanting to blow that ship up (  ), I converted it to Lightwave format.
Mind you, this is a straight up conversion, using the textures from the Max version.

...oh, and in this conversion version, no, they don't retract.
But that'd be easy to fix in LW modeler (which is what I'm doing in the LW 8 version)

Dude I don't even recall seeing a post, or any WIPs over there... I mean I was working on this thing, I'd gotten the main body done and was moving onto the launch bays when suddenly I see the thing up for download at SFM. Totally caught me off guard. This dude is one hell of a modeler. He craps out these things faster than I can blink. I threw out a challange for a pilot for my viper, and like less than a day later he replies with pictures of the thing nearly finished. Incredible.

Well, Darrell, if you need some new hardware, I've got all sorts of stuff lying around the place. You'd be surprised what I get from some of my clients.
Client - "Now that I've got this new system, could you just get rid of the old one for me?"
Me - "F***in' A! I mean - sure..."
Then, of course, there's all the stuff I have left over after my own upgrades.
Right now, I've got three 512 MB memory sticks, a brand new motherboard with a 2.4GHz P4 on it, and a couple of very nice 256MB video cards that aren't compatible with my new system. (Damned PCI Express slot...)
And I'm still not satisfied with what I've got!

That's a nice mesh. How many polys is that thing -- I imagine the ribs must pile them on.
I like the design of the ship from overhead, particularly the unusual approach to detailing. Not real fond of the underside, which I notice that the effects guys, uh, "underplay".

Cant post images on this site (or I dont know how), and I have no site of my own, but there are images at scifi-meshes from my 2003 centurion and 2003 cylon raider in the 3d-art section. Wanted to blow up some of Mike Wright his vipers, but they are made in max4.3, and I work with max3.0. So I have to wait for some zoic renders (front,top,etc) from the viper MVII (I know Mike is waiting for them too, lol) so I can create that one to battle the cylon raiders. Meanwhile I am doing some Borg stuff, and slowly working on the 2003 cylon basestar.

No, the ribs have not that many polys, made them with AutoCad, the real polycount comes from the little details. Thought the whole mesh was something about 700.000 polys, but it renders real quick in max, and as Warrior said it seems to render quick in LW.
Dont know about the polycount in LW, maybe Warrior can answer that.

wjaspers - You may feel free to use the Gallery as a host for your images. I've created a "Works In Progress" category in the Gallery for those of you who do not have your own webspace. Once you're done with a project, you can just delete the files you no longer need.
