Pyotr continued
The previous thread was getting too long so I started a new one. Added shuttlebay doors.
I noticed Thomas' version has a scalloped rear end. Is this the way it's supposed to look? It's not like that in the drawings.

Yup. It should have an undercut to the rear engineering hull. See the final version of the schematics in the Museum article!

There seem to be some mesh errors near the windows on the saucer?

Yes, and I cannot correct it. I tried to increase the amount of faces in that area before boolean subtracting the windows, but still got the errors. ACK!

I've stopped trying boolean and shape merging for windows because of those darned mesh errors (just about every 3d tool creates them!). It's a problem because when you have new edges created that are not at the correct angles supported by the tool. I use boolean intersections that create a new poly where the window is and then extrude it by a small factor so it can be seen above the surface it is on. Then I change it's properties to not allow it to receive or cast shadows. Don't know if tS allows for such things.

Interesting idea, but once you boolean intersect, doesn't that object become part of the larger object and then if I turned off shadow casting, it would apply to the whole saucer in my case?
Perhaps I could boolean intersect and extrude it the smallest amount I can so that maybe it will not be noticeable. I will have to try it. Thanks for the info.

You would be correct but I left out a step, oops. I create a clone (copy) of the object that will have the windows or decal that I intersect with.

I will give you method a try. I think I have an idea of how I can do it. now if I could just render some more time for myself. We seem to have adopted some kittens that have demanded most of our time.
