I agree - the glow effect actually obscures some of the excellent detail work in the deflector. It's probably more realistic, lighting-wise, but the first image is more pleasing to the eye.
Do you have a bigger version of the "without" image?

Yes, add myself to the 'no glow' faction... the glowing distracts from the beautiful scenery.
