My first render
Okay, not my mesh, but an excellent one available here from Sean Robertson, converted by Fabio, rendered by me.
Be kind, it is my first one, done in Vue 5. Texturing leaves a lot to be desired, I am working on that. Also, the model did not come with textures for the small consoles, so I made my own, but they need to be resized.
you don't have to comment, but you may if you want.
Does it take you guys also numerous hours to render this stuff??

It looks a little dark, but it's a good start. You need to reset your UV Mapping settings for the consoles, so that your textures exactly fit onto the screens. There should be something in your software's instructions (you know, that big book you ignored) about that. And, yes, with a scene that large and complex, it will take a while to render, depending on your RAM and the speed of your processor.

It is indeed a bit to dark. I am rendering new version with a bit more light.
I have a Dell Dimension with a 2.4 gig cpu / 1 gig of mem and a 200 gig HD. I shouldn't take that long, but I have already had an instance that stated it would take 37 hours!!! I cancelled that rendering

Yeah, a scene that complex will take a while, but 37 hours seems a little excessive, especially with your system specs.

it also depends on the type of lights you use in a scene that can make your render time enormous.

So, what is the average render time for a decent size model?

That's another good point. Of course, if you have a dinosaur of a computer like mine, a med-poly model with a few textures and bumps and some nice shadows can take a few hours to render

Depending on what it is I'm rendering, anywhere between ten/fifteen minutes to a half hour for a hi rez image with basic shadow map lights.
If I'm using radiosity, it can take longer.

Well, if it only takes that long with Lightwave to render something, I am deffinitly switching to that. Right now the average it takes in Vue 5 is about 3 to 6 hours for something with realistic lighting but poly intense. About 30 minutes to an hour for something simple.

I have vue 5 Infinite & a 1024 x 768 at Superior with 750k polys takes about 4hrs to render. However I have had renders that take weeks to complete.
As evryone else has already said it depends on the system specs & complexities of the render.
1 comment on the scene that maybe related to the other commenst about it being dark....it needs stronger shadows (should help define the space between objects better) :-)

One cool thing about TrueSpace is that, even though it may not be top of the line, it sounds like it renders pretty quickly compared to some of these other programs, even on my old computer.

Update
Well, after putting the original aside for a few days, I picked it back up, played with it, got frustrated, through it aside. then finally worked on it again in the past few days. Here is as it is right now. I came accross a picture from the original show, so I decided to model the lighting as close to it is as possible.
The first, my re-render, and below that, a pic of the original.
Getting there slowly
BTW, this is all done in Vue 5

Outstanding. If it weren't for the displays (I know you're working on those ) I'd swear I was looking at a cleaned-up pic of the real bridge.
