[NEM+] Hayden class Scout / Data Collector
There's a bit of backdrop for this little (litteraly) ship, if anyone's interested in it I'll post it.
Basically, this ship is used for data collection, filling up the charts of Federation mapmakers. It's highly armored, as in *MOAR ABBLATIVE ARMOR!!!*, but she can't pack much of a punch: with just a single quantum torpedo launcher, a single normal torpedo tube and four phaserstrips, she rather runs (pretty fast, W9.999) from trouble instead of trying to battle her way out. That armor comes in handy when facing larger starships, as certain parties in the galaxy (the Orion Syndicate, for example) don't want others to know what they're up to.
Enough babbling, picture time! ^_^
... That is, when I figure out how to post pictures in here Do I need to use an external image hoster?

And, as promised, the bridge, and some more shots of the ship itself Don't mind that Captain's chair; I need to rework it >_<

I knows nuffin about Sketchup, but can you smooth edges with it, like beveling maybe?

Re: [NEM+] Hayden class Scout / Data Collector
Pff... last one for now This render was done with a different light setting, andsince then I'm trying out new locations for my omni-lights as I go. Still have to find one that really pleases me though...
The last image is the shuttlebay from the inside, although I need to add more ceiling lights to it to make it a bit brighter in there. All in the works
I need to find that out Warrior, Ozylot over at SFM made that remark too. *goes googling*

OK, now that I've seen everything, nice work so far. I like the different direction you're taking this ship. And the bridge looks great so far.

Re: [NEM+] Hayden class Scout / Data Collector
Sweet designs .. beveling will help to remove the sharpness of the surface edges .. this is a problem with my first mesh ..

I think it was a problem with everyone's first mesh.

Re: [NEM+] Hayden class Scout / Data Collector
Nice work on the design. I like the last image showing the ship from the rear quarter.
Plan on adding any textures? That would really make the ship pop.

Re: [NEM+] Hayden class Scout / Data Collector
Thanks Skyhawk, that is one of my favorite shots as well. I want to make textures for it but currently don't know how. I'm afraid SketchUp doesn't natively support cross-face textures; right now if I place a texture, if it's a complicated face, the texture gets garbled up. But when I'm able too I will sure do!

Re: [NEM+] Hayden class Scout / Data Collector
Can SketchUp export to .obj format? If it can, you can get a freeware program like Blender to use to apply textures. There are also freeware renderers and I'm sure you can apply textures in those as well. That would solve the problem of applying the textures, then you'd just have to figure out how to make them.

Re: [NEM+] Hayden class Scout / Data Collector
Great colours on the second pic. ( of the first post ) Is it made by you ? Nice composition too - with a little more work on the lighting, that the meshes match with the background, you´ll have a "killer-picture"

Looks fine!
Just one question: are those big insets really windows?

Re: [NEM+] Hayden class Scout / Data Collector
Which ones do you mean? The oval shapes? Yes, those are windows. The ship is fairly small, she's got only 6 decks of which only 4 are 'real' decks (Deck 1 is the bridge, Deck 6 houses the lower part of deflector control and the airlocks).

Re: [NEM+] Hayden class Scout / Data Collector
I guess that answers the burning question of how those giant ceiling-to-floor windows on the Enterprise-D would look on a small ship.
Seriously, it looks good, dude. I especially like the way you did the emblem and stripes on the side. I think this ship would make a cool game mod. It looks fast and maneuverable.

Re: [NEM+] Hayden class Scout / Data Collector
An excerpt from the log of the Hayden's captain, Jonathan Smith:
Quote:
Captain's log, stardate 65001.5.
We have been dispatched to a remote nebula, answering a faint and badly degraded distress signal. The signal is Starfleet, though we didn't know who send it as it did not have any identification markers attached. We have just arrived at the scene, and have discovered an old Leopard class frigate. Lifesupport and power are not present, but what worries me most is that a ship name or registry isn't either. I've composed an armed to the teeth boarding party to find out what's going on...
