Default Sci-Fi Reactor Room

A sci-fi reactor room model. This was created as a module which can be attached to other sections in order to easilly create varied evironments from a set of sections.

That looks great. Do you have any of the other sections built?

Here is a peak at another section of the reactor room. I still need to add a bit of detail.

Could you please either upload your images as attachments to the forum or at least post thumbnail versions so that our friends in dial-up land (or cheap DSL land) don't have to sit so long waiting for the page to load?

Very cool!

I've never been into a nuclear reactor room before, so I could never offer intelligent feedback, but... I will venture to comment on scale. It would be very nice to see a figure in the space to get a sense of scale... it looks like your steps need to have wider treads in relation to the height of your risers. May I also suggest that you put in some simple stair rails?

Cheers! — Möe

Thanks for the feedback Moe! I have never been into a Nuclear Reactor room either so this is really just conceptual. I suppose a sense of scale would help a little more. In my mind the stairs actually gave it scale but I will have to re-visit that idea since it doesn't work for you and prob doesn't for others as well.

I appretiate the insight =)

Ya know... I think I still have my Creature Creator plug-in for LW, so maybe I'll make a character or two for people to use as a scale for interior stuff...

That would be awesome!

Right now I have to import some static OBJ meshes from DAZ figures and then scale them in LW in order to try and get things scaled anthropometrically correct... the only problem using this workaround is that these figure proportions don't work well with real world known dimensions.

This thread has actually got me thinking about designing an RTG (radioisotope thermoelectric generator) for a starship engine room project I have been stalling for ages.

How does a Poser figure not work? After importing to LW and you rescale the character, save it as a LW object and use it EVERY TIME. That way, ALL of your interiors are scaled to that character, thus all are scaled to each other.

Just based on the fact the character is 6' if male and 5'9 if female, and you should be good to go.

For starters... I found that after scaling a standing M3 figure at a set height (to determine scaling factor) when I apply the same scaling factor to a pre-posed seated figure you'd think that it would work all easy like...

Nope... it doesn't

I work in architectural interiors professionally, so I sort of know my way around basic things like chair heights, seating depths, eye levels, worktop heights... blah, blah, blah... The seated figure's proportions are off... the femur is too long making the seat depth 15% deeper than standard, the fibula too short making a standard seat too high, and the seated eye level is too low because the torso ends up too long. And when you push the seated figure in a chair into a standard desk height the thighs don't allow for any clearance.

It's just really annoying, because I create everything to real world dimensions (I work in millimeters to really attempt a degree of precision)... and those blasted virtual figures are set to pretty weird proportions.

Cheers! — Möe

It needs a more greebled fusion core, one that's about twice the diameter. Also, make it a triple rod core. Imagine the lighting that could be done with all three flashing so slightly out of sequence that only after about 50 flashes do they come into synch wiht one another. Sort of like watching ten cars on the highway trying to signal for a left turn. They're all not quite in synch, and it's almost hypnotic watching them eventually get in synch. Pigmobile lights do the same thing -- at least the old gumball machines did.

Hmm, i'm not so sure about making the diameter of the fusion core bigger. It works for me just the way it is. It would be nice to see more than one core tube though. I don't know how the mesh is built but if the core tube is separate from the room mesh it would be very easy to duplicate it and add 2 more core tubes in the floor space around the current tube.

Very nice model BTW. Been meaning to say so.

While true, your statement falls on deaf ears because DaethZ just wanted to download files (I think he even said as much in his registration request) and posted in 5 random thread to achieve this because he doesn't give a damn about the forums. I only let it slide because, if I delete the post, he'll probably just necropost in another.
