Carlg's pre-ENT Daedalus
Over at SFM, Carlg made his vision on the Daedalus. I'm calling it a pre-ENT daedalus, but I actually have no idea where to put it. Either way, I thought it was cool, and when I noticed that another SketchUp user started work on it and... well, failed, I stepped in to give the model a shot. Attached to this post is Carl's sideview, which I use most during the modelling process, and a lightingtest with the main engineering almost complete. The bugger is detailed as hell, but I think that I should be done with the model within 2 months tops (the Hayden, to compare, took me a LOT longer).
I am building the model one component at a time; almost in the same manner as it would have been build in reality. When every component is done, they come together to create the complete ship. This has a very big pluspoint: it keeps my computer from failing epicly while the model grows more and more
So... any suggestions?

Re: Carlg's pre-ENT Daedalus
That's an awesome design. It's definitely one of the best Daedalus-class designs I've ever seen. I can see why you're calling it pre-Enterprise, it looks like it's based more off current technology than Trek technology.
And your model looks fantastic so far. You're really doing that design proud. I think I once called you the Sketch-Up master at SFM but, after seeing this, I think we might have to crown you the undisputed Sketch-Up King.

I could about stare at that thing all day. Thanks for the rear shot. (gives me another view to drool over) This is really a most excellent design.
BTW, are you using Sketch-Up to render these or another program?

Yeah, I've heard great things about the Kerkythea renderer. It's really great for people who like their modeling app. but aren't thrilled with its rendering capabilities.

Re: Carlg's pre-ENT Daedalus
Some of the gallery renders on the Kerkythea web site are really mind-blowing. The guys over at Renderosity have been looking at Kerkythea very seriously as an alternative renderer to Poser. Some of the guys are thinking about writing a plug-in for Poser to export a scene directly into Kerky with materials and dynamic hair etc. I don't know how far that that project is but it's worth keeping an eye on!

Re: Carlg's pre-ENT Daedalus
And here we have a shot from the back, showing the first module of the neck: Reactor Control. Plus, an additional module is almost done for engineering. As that module needs to be tweaked only a little to pose as the module that comes aft of Main Engineering, I only need to make two more modules to complete the Engineering hull: Deflector Control and Comm. Module. It's going fast ^_^

Fantastic work!
The shot of the aft was really amazing. Like EG said, I could look at that all day.
