Coming Soon Part "2" Romulan Bridge
This is now set for release and Fretslayer agrees .
I have some tweaking to do and since Virtualkey08 has released a great Romulan model to our download area. its time for another Romulan set to be added.
also
to following that will a large Corridor set up.. I never know how much stuff to fill this ship and spartan look felt better more than looked better..
I don´t know.
I also included a image of the plan of it,
its to the same scale with the bridge and the elevator lines up with it...

Re: Coming Soon Part "2" Romulan Bridge
Hello folks, sorry I haven't been around much lately. Been too busy to work on this stuff since I moved to DC five years ago, and now the software has left me behind - I'd have to relearn all of it.
One bit of advice I'd give you is to make the walls of the bridge set more angled or curved somehow rather than straight vertical. I always kind of figured the Romulans having either more organic or more angular designs depending on the era. To give you an idea of what I mean, here's one I did several years ago that has a very utilitarian military feel to it:
http://webolutionary.com/truespace/b...omulan4-12.jpg
http://webolutionary.com/truespace/b...omulan4-15.jpg
Another thing I did with that set was use a much darker lighting scheme than a typical Federation set to convey the darker brooding nature of the Romulans. That kind of mood lighting with a lot of shadowy spaces and smaller pools of light creates a very different appearance. I think the blues and greens feel a bit more Romulan too, whereas with a Klingon set I'd got for harsher yells, reds, and bare metal surfaces.
I'd also recommend spending a lot of time adding subtle finishing details to the set. Any piece of military hardware will have access panels and labels and things like that all over the place. A larger flagship might also have more ornamental finishes to soften the edge (an admiral doesn't want to feel like he's in command of a freighter). One thing I learned when I was doing this stuff is the details really do make all the difference in the world, helping to add realism where it might end up looking toyish otherwise.

Awesome. thanks for the feed back ,
your images are astounding, I am going to spend some time on this. I might release these and rework it from the start.
Version 2 if you will..
do you mind if I use your posted images as a reference for it

Re: Coming Soon Part "2" Romulan Bridge
Feel free to! You can actually see all of my work in one big image dump here:
http://webolutionary.com/truespace/
Look for the bridge_romulan4 batch and you can actually see most of the build process.
For an interesting exercise, look at the older Romulan sets too and you'll see how my style and techniques evolved over time.

Re: Coming Soon Part "2" Romulan Bridge
BTW, one thing I just remembered, if you look at those WIPs for the romulan4 set, you'll see how modular everything is. That's very common in Star Trek sets (and military hardware in general) - it's far cheaper to build that way and individual parts can be swapped out easily.

I will take that into account for my next builds
I will post a thread in a new thread when ready and please feel free to make any suggestions .
my next model is the Enterprise but a re imagined approach of my own. but won´t be to far from the original one. and I will be building the sets to go in to it(figuratively specking)
The Bridge especially will take me to hand,, I like the design you did on your website as a guide too.. that set always looked closer to the TOS style in many ways ..

Re: Coming Soon Part "2" Romulan Bridge
I forget the polycounts but the files often grew quite large. Render times averaged between an hour or two to well over eight hours for the most complexly lit sets.

I strongly encourage you to post a WIP thread at the very beginning of the construction of your sets rather than waiting until you've got it mostly done. That way you can take advantage of feedback as you go along.

i think its hard for anyone to fill seanr's shoes, but he's definitely well on his way!
Taranis, your stuff is looking superb. while i love the forum, i think you would be able to get better feedback from more seasoned artists (we need to drag them over to 3dg kicking and screaming, but thats neither here nor there)
I would also guess that a texturing pass would do a world of good - get some dirt and scratches and maybe some bump maps. little things, but as sean says, its in the details.

You have touch on my Achilles heel. "Texturing" ..
Taranis Bane.
but your right it need it,
this these where the quickest models I ever did at the time earlier in the year.. I did a number of models for the fan film.
The USS Stargazer´s Hanger Deck. for EG180s Stargazer model
The USS ARIES Oberth Class. in the downloads area
The Klingon Bridge, also in the downloads area
The Klingon Corridor, guess where!??
The Romulan Bridge, guess again
The Romulan Corridor, go on try
A space station room set never completed (Regula station),
Romulan Hall of Justice, for a flash back scene
by the time I was on the Romulan stuff I was shattered and at my lowest creative level. Fretslayer will tell you I was really at the low end of a dead battery.
I was also Co writing the story bible for the Fan Film or the background to the story and stepping on Fretslayers toes too.
I can say now it was a lot of work and hundreds of hours to get them. Now I have seen SeanR work, I have a guide to follow.

Re: Coming Soon Part "2" Romulan Bridge
Ger, I have a homework assignment for you
1. Pick a set, any set. I dont care which, as long as wires are available.
2. Build that set. Post WIP's on as many trek-related art forums (3dg, sfm, daz3d trek forums, trekbbs, okudagrams, foundation3d et al) - same WIP.
3. Take several aspirin and a 2 week vacation to someplace warm and sunny
4. Discuss with your therapist why you should be allowed near a computer again
5. Do a different set in the meantime to take your mind off of work
6. Get back to the original set. Cry in desperation, grab a beer, rebuild it. twice
7. Hack into my computer, get my address and come over and shoot me.
8. FINISH THE G--DAMN SET ALREADY!
9. Taranis = the new SeanR
take as much time as you need.
p.s. give tnpir4002 a shout. he's built some very impressive sets using only bryce, and i have no doubt he would love to give you hand in developing your skills. " Face Darth Maya you must, only then a Jedi you will be"
