Hi all, as a blender user one of the facilities is UV and texture mapping. Now I'm not all that bright and the only tutorial I found for this was for a version that opperates differently to versions 247 and 248 which I use now. i am running 248 as a trial for a while. Can anyone point me in the right direction with this area of model building. I am fascinated by the whole 3D moddeling thing but dissapointed in my end results because the texturing is so basic. I hae both paint shop pro and the gimp for external painting and have had a try with the internal texturing in blender. But whatever i do the texture ends up stretched and useless. I have just got in to splitting the mesh for laying out on a uv map and working from there It looks ok the only thing is when i export the finished trial the texture looks like its been pulled through a mangle. If anyone can hook me up with an up to date turorial I would be eternally grateful. I have seen version 2.42 but it is so different from 248 and 247.
You and me both. I will have to keep on doing trial and error and see if I can work it out. Even the Blender site drew a blank. I may send a message to the foundation for help. This is an area that us newbies are falling down on because of the lack of guidance. I will keep you posted.
Hi fellow blender users. I finall did it. I finally created and textured my first model.
This link opened up the secret for me and I hope it will do the same for you.
watch carefully you will see a little trick during UV unwrap. Blender contains a smart engine that saes you having to cut or split the meshes in order to create a texturable uv map. this video has unlocked the secret and has lead to my success. It was the positive thoughts of the members here that made me search harder to find this secret.
I can't thanks you all enough. I am happy as larry and will post an image of that first model here shortly. The texturing isn't anyway near perfect but it is my own work from start to finish. From this i can build and with practice I can mirror the fantastic modelers here and share my work.
I hope you can see the pic. This is my success story in print.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Thanks Teranis. I hope that link helps you the same way it did for me.
The model is simple and I did it start to finish in about 5 hours. I am getting a drawing tablet tomorrow to start texturing in earnest. Using a mouse is murder.
You might want to save the link to your favourites I did.
I used blender 247 for the model and texturing. I'll write a short tutorial to unlock what i did with screen shots. The important one is the unwrap. Youull see what I mean when it's done. I'll sart on it now.
As you know I am a big fan of blender and recently I finally learned the secret of texture meshes and uv mapping.
Well i am well on the road to accomplishing my dream of making good models.
I still need a lot of practice but the image below is my second self textured creation. Before long I may get there, until then I am going to keep practicing
and enjoying my new hobby. It keeps me sane with three unruly kids and a psychotic cat.
This is a tanker. No fleet derivation just a model. am i on the right track tho?
Thanks mate. Well i have found a project that is going to take time. I am going to attemt to build a SAAB hammerhead. I have found some pics now the modelling begins. I won't reveal until finished because I want to make it perfect. There are meshes out there but I don't want to join more groups to get one. The links reffereing to meshes here are no longer active at the other end so It's time to try something that people recognise.
Here is an Image of the model at foundation Mesh originally created for 3DSMAX by Stefan May in 1996/97 - Converted into Lightwave format and optimised for lightwave By F.Passaro - can help too..
First test build nearly complete. It will onlt be a test build to iron out bugs.
Last job underway is the guns and mounts. I have been texturing as I go.
Once complete I will be doing a second build until I get it right. will post image very soon.
OK, here's my first attempt at the hammerhead. Since i have only been doing this for a few months I am quite pleased with the result especially since I textured it freehand.
I am going to try again now that I have worked out the shaping. This time there will be more parts than in this model since I learn from my mistakes.
